I just got one email from friend.
Say one of bank website is not real & chances of duplicate website & stealing your personal information
It say always check website address, it should start with 'https' & not 'http'
Just want to know, is that the only criteria or something else
After reading that email, I check websites address in my favorites & almost all of them start with 'http'
Some examples are TD Canada, RBC, SBI India, ICICI or even hotmail, yahoo etc
Even Canadiandesi website start with 'http'
Is it duplicate or real
What is the risk we are carrrying by using 'http'
I am doing internet banking & all stuff for last so many & never faced any problem
Am I wrong at some place or I can just ignore that email
Can some write more about this
Thanks
http is not a secure site while https is. It has nothing to do with real or not.
For example, the TD home page is http because there is no secure information posted or requested. However, when you go to easyweb for online banking, you will see https on the address indicating the site is secure.

http: will turn to https: when you login to banking sites, etc. That would be secure, encypted page.
Be sure to check the spelling that you type in the browser or use only bookmarks to go to the correct site. Many browsers now have "phishing filters" built in them that you can turn on that will warn you if a particular site is suspect. If you get an email from bank, do not click on the links in the email and then login from there as that could be a trap leading to fake websites to get your user ID and password.

Thanks both of your for sharing this information
I didn't observe that 'http' changes to 'https' when you go to login page
Then I checked few websites like TD, RBC,ICICI etc & yes its happening. That means information is safe atleast, correct?
Now here is what happen in yahoo email ( for example)
When click on main yahoo page it shows 'http', then click on check mail it goes to login page with 'https'.
But as soon as login & password given & click okay, it again goes to 'http'
Is something wrong?
I am asking this as many times we send important information by email or we get bank statement by email
What I can do to make it secure?
Also how to use BOOKMARKS more effectively?
How BOOKMARK & saving in FAVORITES is different?
Can you write more on same
Thanks
email is not considered safe. It can be intercepted.
I doubt if any bank would email your statement.
