Dear CDs,
This is relating to re-entering US while studying on F1 visa . Within the validity of the I 20 and I 94, even if the course is completed the student can return to US for a few days ?

CONTINUING STUDENTS
Continuing students who are going to travel outside of the United States must see their foreign student advisor and obtain an endorsement from the DSO or RO. The endorsement will be made on page 3 of the SEVIS Form I-20 or page 1 of the DS-2019. When returning to the United States, a continuing student/exchange visitor must present a valid SEVIS Form I-20 or DS-2019 with the DSO or RO signature showing that the student is active and in good standing with the school or program.
Has anybody done this before? Anyone has any other experience or suggestions/comments?
Thanks for all replies in advance.
Hiren
If your course is completed then your OPT should start the next day itself as far as I am concerned.Technically there can be no gap between course completion and OPT.Atleast UNebraska made it a point to individually review every F1 applicant every semester as they had your program of study on file.
Even if the EAD card has not come in the mail you can go to the INS office and pick it up.That is what I did.
I am sure you cannot sit with your degree and while your OPT application in the mail.
I did come to Canada on my OPT EAD card and returned.
From my end I would clarify if my course / program is completed then the I 20 is no longer useful and the EAD card takes effect.
I 94 has F1 stamped so that is a valid document
I did this in 2003 when there was no SEVIS.
Hope this helps.

OPT - Optional Practical Training (employment during student status)
EAD - Employment Authorization document (needed to do OPT on a F1 status)
SEVIS - a computerized system put in place after 9/11 for checks and balances to ensure that a student entering on F1 does enroll and study in the univeristy and not disappear into the US.
To the best of my knowledge, the I-20 and I-94 is valid for "Duration of Studies". What does that mean?
End of duration of studies may occur when he graduates or when he stops registering for classes full time (classes may include just research credits as long he is registered full time) or if he has EAD for OPT, when OPT duration ends.
F1 status ceases to be valid once the duration of studies is over. His I-94 may be valid now but while re-entering, he needs to be prepared to answer what he will be doing in the US and the SEVIS database needs to show that he is a full time student.
Hope this helps.

Guys! I have a question regarding American visiting Canada. I have a cousin, who has got Green Card, but doesn't have Indian passport. Can he visit Canada only on the basis of Green Card, or does he require Canadian Visitor Visa as well? He got his Green Card last year.
Thanks for your valuable responses. Much appreciated.
