I got married on last year in Bangladesh. Our marriage was never registered here in Canada. All we have is the original marriage contract that was given to us in Bangladesh. Currently the contract is with my wife's parents.
Since coming back to Canada things have not gone very well for us. I have suffered constant verbal abuse and some physical abuse from my wife. She doesn't even want to help me with the family expenses and refuses me to save or send any money for my parents back home. I can go on with the complaints but I will stop. It has come to the point where now I am seeking divorce. I asked my wife to stay with her parents for the time being. She has been there since July. Her clothes are still with me which I have asked her to take back.
Now to the legal stuff. In Canada, what I know, the way divorce works is that we have to stay separated for 1 year and then we can get a divorce. Since we don't own any property and have no children, there is no division of property. My wife also works and has similar income. So there is no question of spouse support. However, we still have to wait for a year before we can get the divorce. I read somewhere that since we did not get a marriage certificate in Canada, the Canadian jurisdiction does not apply for us.
At this point, is it possible to get a divorce processed in Bangladesh? I am not going to be able to go to Bangladesh before this December. Is there anyway that my parents send me the paperwork, I sign from here and send it back to Bangladesh?
If anyone knows about this, I will really appreciate your help.
sorry to hear about this. hope you find the best solution soon.
thanks!
does anyone know how much it would cost to consult with a lawyer in Toronto? I am extremely stressed out right now and would really appreciate the info. My wife yesterday sent me an email saying that I can't move anything in the house even though I paid for everything and got into debt for it. All I want now is to separate from her.
