Hi,
I am an international student starting my 1 year course in Centennial College, Scarborough in september 08.
I was unaware of new upcoming Canadian Experience Class immigration category which requires graduates seeking PR to have completed at least 2 years of program.
It has just came to my notice that 2 years program is required. Now at such a short notice(10 days to start program), I cant change my program to a good one.
So my question is wat are my chances of getting PR if I am doing my current 1 year program after which I will get 1 year open work permit.
Must I really change my course of study to a 2 year program even if I dont find a good course? Or there are still chances for me to get PR on my current 1 year course?
I am a fresh MBBS doctor from India. Please advise and oblige...

If when you applied the rules were different, then, you follow and go by the rules at the time of admission.
If the date of change of the rules is after your landing, then, you are not affected by them, since they came into effect after your admission.
All the same, do take your time and while you are here, explore the job scene and see if there are any suitable openings and if anyone is willing to provide you with a work permit and extend the same for you to stay here and get PR. You will need an open, three year work permit, not just the length your studying will provide. Contact the CIC here in Mississauga, Ontario, while studying, see if there is an employer who will need your services for a period longer than the 10 months. Then extend your stay.
Welcome to Canada.
Freddie.
Thanks very much freddie for ur reply...
So you mean that I must carry on my current course and should explore things on the job side?
And are there employers at CIC offices in Missisauga?
Also freddie I would like to ask you one last question.
My fiancee who is a dependent on PR file has just got an approval today.
So what are the chances if i marry her after she comes here?
Will things get easier for me if I marry her soon?
Pls reply and I highly appreciate ur help.
Since you have known your Fiancee for a long period of time, please get your auto biography in order and proceed towards the altar as soon as you both find it convenient.
Then proceed to obtain your PR here in Canada, with her sponsorship, which means that she sponsors you. It will take some time for things to finalize. By then you should have gotten through your studies and your work experience also.
Things should fall in place nicely as time progresses.
Congratulations to you both.
Please don't forget to send us all a note, if you want us on that occasion to witness the ceremony. Also provide us with the dress code.
Good Luck. Happy landing.
Freddie.
