Hi
If the principal applicant has a valid stay in Canada for PR (under student and now CEC categories), but his dependants do not, what will be the case,....will they get PR whenever he gets, or do they each have to be staying the same length as him?
Thanks

When you come for your studies here in Canada, you can bring in your dependents with you while you are studying. After you complete your studies and get through the required one year's (At the least) experience, you can ask the CIC to give you PR. For this you will have to file an application from with in Canada. Also get a letter of recommendation from your employers for the service you rendered to them. If you have a current employer ask them to provide you with a letter of employment. It is considered as arranged employment, you will get more points for all of this. It is given in the application guide.

Now when you apply, you include all of your dependents. In that include your Parents and your spouse's Parents also, even if they are not immigrating together with you. If there is no room in the spaces provided, you add another sheet with details. They may have to undergo medicals, police clearance etc., as explained in the guide.

Obtain an application kit. Or down load and print and work with this. If you have access and free time drop in at any of the Immigrant Help Centers situated all over Toronto, Ontario. They will not only provide you with a kit, they will help you fill in all of the details in the kit and help you mail it too.

Hope this helps you a little.

Freddie.

Thanks Freddie

But what if they cannot, for some reason stay with me during the period of study, and join as soon as the study is over, and I get a work permit? If they stay the 1 year that is specified, is it good enough for them to be considered for PR?

Or...its like, its not important at all whether dependents stay there or not, I should have completed 1 yr of work experience there to file forPR?

Am a bit confused...

Many of the people on student visa do not bring in their dependents while studying. It is a choice that they make. That is o.k. It is when you apply for PR, you include them in your application as a family. It is also nice to have that years' adjustment in the work force and experience to go with it prior to your applying for PR to get into Canada.

You are correct. Your wife and dependents, they don't have to have any qualifying time to get into that PR application. They could be anywhere, but will have to do and complete successfully all of the police clearance, health check up etc., that is called for in the application. What brings them all in, is the number of points that you score in your assessment and the good job that you will get upon Graduating here. That will prove to the Immigration Officer that you will be able to establish yourself here in Canada very Successfully.

Currently they are giving the Graduates a three year Open Work Permit. Also you can apply for your PR while you are working. For all of the information you should contact the Immigrant Help Center near by where you are staying and seek their help. It will well worth your time and effort.

There is no confusion here. You just proceed smartly and fill out an application for PR including the dependents in it and if you want help contact the help center near by.

Good Luck.

Freddie.
