Hundreds of Zoom Airlines passengers were stranded in Canada and Britain when the cash-short Ottawa-based company suddenly suspended its operations and cancelled all of its flights after creditors took actions to get money owed to them.

The same thing happened when Canada3000 (I think that's what it was called), shut down overnite a few years ago. One minute it's there and the next minute it's gone !!! A colleague of mine had his tickets booked for a summer vacation on Canada3000, and I remember he was having a tough time with his travel agent trying to make alternative arrangements.

I was one of the so many who had faced that. I was in Singapore at that time and leaving for Canada, but had my tickets for and upto Newark by Malaysian Airlines. So the night before I was l leaving Singapore, I booked my flight for NJ to YYZ by Canada 3000.
On reaching Seattle, I called up my wife in Toronto just to tell her that I am there and would reach home by night when she told me that the airline went bust and grounded! Just imagine - I had bought a ticket about 24hrs earlier!!!
Finally had to book a train ticket to travel from NY to Toronto and fortunately, my credit card company reversed my charges for airline ticket.

That is a good reminder - I like the way consumers are protected in Credit Card transactions.
