Its quite a good move.

I dont think many people know that Mc Cain is detested amongst the true blue conservatives like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh etc..e.g back in 2000, His saying that the evangelical leaders had an evil influence over the republican party.

Many lay republicans were sitting out rather than vote for Mc Cain. Ann Coulter said she would rather support Hillary.

His Palin pick has changed the game...the conservatives are back into the campaign. Shes someone with very 'conservative' values and has taken on corruption in her own party. She seems to be clean and capable. Pleasing to the eye helps too.

That pick has revitalized the average repiblican and the campaign itself. Mc Cain campaign has had 7 million $ upsurge in contributions after his pick. Says it all. The pick resonates well with the conservative grass roots.

From a strategic pov...some of Hillary's supporters had at one point said that they would rather vote or McCain than Obama. Now with Palin in his corner the incentive is even more for the feminists(if they overcome the prolife/anti-abortion leanings of Palin).

Any other pick by Mc Cain would have been yesterdays news. But Palin will not be for many reasons including that its a good 'story' (blue-collar hubby, down-syndrom baby that she could have aborted etc). Of the two Palin has more experience than Obama. Palin is the gov(2yrs) and was mayor(10 yrs). Obama is a junior senator from illinois. Palin is also the commander in chief of the Alaska national guard. Alaska borders 2 foreign countries...Canada and Russia. The Alaska National Guard is said to be on the forefront of missile defense(Russian threat).

Basically Obama campaign has to be very careful in dissing her or they may get badly burnt.

On the whole its like a freaking Circus. I dont think Obama or Palin should be in there...from the experience perspective. Of course, rightly or wrongly, that's not the only thing that sails these ships.

edit:Talking about wind...the next few days probably belong to Gustav.

My take on Ms. Palin:

1) McCain has made a clever and shrewd decision to ensure his victory comfortable. Women (especially older) see in her a chance to break the presidential “glass ceiling” in their lifetimes. They will keep in mind that McCain will be too old to run next election at 76yrs, which makes her the automatic choice.

How does it affect us?
a) For one she is a hardcore \"creationist\" meaning she advocates that earth was created just 6,000 yrs ago directly by God. This effectively junks every archeology and biology lesson we studied in our schools. Creationists hope to eventually replace scientific evolution with this religious theory. In short, Western version of Taliban.

b) She is a Gun-carrying life long NRA member. Meaning, clearly advocates that every person has right to go around carrying guns, OPENLY. That’s right….its exactly what we need here in Toronto. :D

Just my two cents.

Yeah, I bet McCain didn't plan for that ;)
That could throw a serious wedge into this whole thing.
The choice appeared to be a very good one until now.
If this thing blows up and Obama campaign ends up making mincemeat out of this issue, McCain could be a history.
It would be too bad if the election campaign ends up being decided over this pregnancy issue, when there are bigger issues at stake here.
But that's what Obama camp would like.

I don't think the democrats will go after a vice-president who doesn't get elected. The media will take care of it. Obama himself has said family and especially children should be off-limits when it comes to politics...for what ever it is worth :)

By the way, Larry King Live had a few people on last night discussing Palin. It was just too funny. When the defenders of Palin were asked to highlight one - just one - achievement of Palin so far, the best they could come up with "She took the previous governer's state plane and sold it on eBay"

So yeah, I don't think the Republicans stand a chance this time...

Obama himself was born to an unwed 17 yr old teenager mother. 3 months after he was born, his mother went on to marry a man with another wife.

So I don't think he is going to exploit this issue more. Already he has told the media to BACK OFF this issue.

I myself do not see a issue of 17 yr old girl being pregnant. Come on guys..... what's the matter, especially if she wants to keep the child & doesn't want to get it aborted secretly, which according to me would be more offensive act.

Actually the pregnancy is working well for Mc Cain as far as the far-right (the ones who hate McCain more than Obama) are concerned. Abortion is the done thing in such cases but that shes keeping the baby means that this family walks the walk.
Its not going to do much harm there. The evangelicals are going to love her even more. These are the ones that McCain needed...a united right. Hes achieved that with Palin. Will it be enough? We dont know.

Wait for more dirt to come out soon. LA times and Washington post has reported on law Suits against Bidens son (hedge fund impropriety)....the republicans will dig deep to see how they can stick this to Biden.

It all depends on which side can spin this better. Both sides will sling mud to see what sticks better.

BTW: Palins daughters preganancy was an 'open secret' in her home town. So the republicans would have surely known about it. The reason for Palin disclosing it was due to bloggers for the dems claiming that the baby with the downs syndrome was the daughters and not the governors.

On the opening ceremony Palin said she was vehemently opposed the 'Bridge to nowhere'...that was not true...I wonder how much longer the dems are going to sit on that slip up of hers. These non issues like the pregnancy are keeping all from the main issues.
