Hello friends,
There are two topics I am looking for advice.
1. Renting a car - Options in Mississauga. Looking to rent for a weekend and followed by 10 days to take guests around.
2. Has anyone been to the 1000 islands? I am looking to spend a night there. Any suggestions about accommodation etc?
Thanks
You have two options either stay at Kingston or Gananoque. My advise is to go to Gananogue. A few good hotels over there - Holiday Inn, Best Western, etc. We stayed at Best Western - staff is horrible. To smile and to say Good Morning they had a lot of trouble. Best Western has a restaurant and the service was good at the restaurant. Try Holiday Inn - Newer place and hopefully the staff is better.
Gananoque has boatline. Ganboatline. http://www.ganboatline.com/home.html
They have one hour, 2.5 hour and 5 hour cruises. 5 hour cruise shall take you to the Boldt Castle. If you have CDN passport or a US visa you are fine else do not go as the castle is in US waters. Do not take the 1 hour cruise - it is too short.
Remember to visit Kingston the next day if time permits. Lot of history in that place. If you are in a hurry take the bus tour from the downtown office, In one hour they show you around the places to see in and around downtown. Worth it. Go to Fort Henry if time permits.

thanks so much for your answers.
did you drive down there? i'm planning to drive too. i am a new driver in canada, but i think i should be able to manage it.
anything i need to keep in mind regarding the drive?
During or visit, we stayed at Ganroc Motel -> http://www.ganrocmotel.com/index.html
We drove there. It's around 2 1/2 hrs. Just keep going on 401 East, until you see signs for 1000 islands. As always watch for cops, so don't over-speed.
