Now that the totally unnecessary election is on our head, I am just opening a thread to discuss the views of CD’s & try to discuss what are we expecting from future government. Not to mention, most of the people believe it might end up making an another minority government, now Stephen Harper after announcing the election is also admitting the fact that he is also expecting a minority government.

Very good article in today’s Toronto Star by Dalton Mcguinty – Premier of Ontario

Message : Treat Ontario with Fairness

* HEALTH CARE – In 2008 alone the federal government withheld $733 million from health transfers to Ontario. Federal health care money is supposed to be divided equally among all the Canadians. But right now, Ontario is shortchanged by over $700 million a year. That’s not fair.

* EMPLOYMENT INSURANCE : In 2007 only 30% of unemployed persons in Ontario received regular EI benefits, compared with an average of 58% in other provinces. Right now, laid off workers in Ontario get $4600 less in employment insurance than they’d get if they lived in another part of Canada. That’s not fair. That’s the money that would help moms and dads who’ve lost their job pay their mortgage, buy groceries and get the training they need to get back into the workforce.

* INFRASTRUCTURE : Under the federal government’s building Canada plan, Ontario is still short of $970 million of infrastructure funding.

* ECONOMY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM : Federal government has all such programs for people living in Atlantic Canada, and the north, and Quebec, and even in the west. But it’s not something they do for the people of Ontario especially during this economic crisis & when the manufacturing sector of this province is shredding off job on regular basis.

Being in Ontario, I would be looking for all this points in the election campaign to decide where I should put my vote. At this point of time, economy is far ahead of health care as an issue to be dealt with, unlike all previous elections.

We can run this thread to inform others of all the election campaign news & promises being made during the coming 5 weeks all over Canada.

*** Pls don’t fill this thread with provincial bashings. This thread is to know all provinces expectations & about election campaign news & views all over Canada ***
