Why not?

You can enter in US without any requirement of Visa. However you should not do any economic activity while you are in US as a Canadian Resident.

When you cross the border make sure you have your indian passport and candian visa. Means you are legal to live in canada.

Because of september 11th attack. USA border officer became strick.
so I would prefer to cross border with some family with certain reason to visit USA. You should have some kind of job in canada that will bind you to return back to canada.

If you are not illlegal or criminal, I don't think you have to afraid of crossing border.

From what I know about 2 3 weeks ago.... Only people holding a Canadian citizenship are alowed in US without visa. Immigrants and all other status holders must do their research because they might actually need a visa to enter the US. i apologize if anything i say is incorrect just passing the word incase there is research required.

Legally you are allowed to enter in US. I have heard that recently US is changing laws and you will need visa to enter US, but as per my knowledge it is not implemented yet.

At most they are stamping your passport that you have entered in US. (They were not doing this before)

What zamzam says is not confirmed yet, and if they need to implment this - they need lot of resources to manage this - so it will take time

Till then you can enter in US without any problem - but please take with you all necessary stuff that proves that you are living in canada and your intentions are not to stay in US.

All said - but if they feel that you are going to enter in US for staying there - they can refuse you. And that is happening when you are new comer to Canada and does not have stable job.
