1500 - 2000 pm OR 25K ... 900 for rent , 200 for utilities / cable / tv /phone and 400 for groceries . Car add 500 more .... give or take 200.

45K ~ 35K after taxes .... You should be good ... Not buying a car you can save more but waste more time in public transport .

I was about to mention EXACTLY this amount.
To add to the above - also to save a decent amount for your comfortable retirement.

Don't scare people loser :)

I can tell $45K won't cut it. But come on, $120K? I am not sure many here can expect to get paid that much...let alone newbies.

You should change you ID to "winner"

$ 120 K is middle class income if you are living on less then that , then you are cutting a lot of corners. Basically you are sacrificing many important things.

somebody actually once mentioned $250,000 on CD for a comfortable life.

that was 2-3 years ago.
maybe now it's $300,000?

here's a link to an article in Toronto Life.

Really? Not going to a health-club and spa is cutting corners? Boo :)

I am dying to know what it is I am sacrificing as you seem to know more about my own corner-cutting than I. What else? Golf Iam guessing? I play tennis in one of the many free public courts. That is cutting corner?

You see this is what is so wrong about people with who come abroad and start dictating and defining what a decent life really should be. The reason I asked the original poster what he considers a decent life is because it is relative and each one has his/her own preference.

Don't have a very generalistic view of things. You have no idea how much I earn by the way :)
