Its official. TZP is going to be India's entry to Oscars!!! I think this movie deserves to be in Oscars. Taare Zameen Par!!!.. I am sure it would make many eyes tearful. Aamir Khan has got a second chance after lagaan.
The jury had a strong contenders list, such as,
A Wednesday
Jodha Akbar
Rock ON
Mumbai Meri Jaan
I think TZP is the best choice.

I believe, besides being nominated, the producers have to market/present the film well to the jury. They need to show them/enlighten them about the current conditions in India and why it is a great movie. Disney being the official partners for North America, I think Amir Khan and TZP have a better chance than before...

BTW, though the entire movie was excellent, the scene I liked the most was when Ishan's Dad goes to Amir and tells him that his wife has read all the articles on the internet about Dyslexia and wanted to prove that they care for thier kids - the reply from Amir is mind boggling.
If Aamir is serious about getting an Oscar, he should try to trim down atleast one to one and half hour of the pre-interval portions of the movie and make it less melodramatic. The movie drags on and on before Ishaan is diagnosed with Dysexia.
Having audiences in tears may able to make a movie hit in India, but may not gel well with Oscar jury.
But overall, a very well made movie with a very off beat topic and still it a commercial success

Though it’s a beautiful film, even I didn’t like some parts of it which I think can deflect the Oscar jury from choosing this film. An Indian origin person can see this film as practical, but a foreigner won’t see it that way. The way the kid is being cured & taken care is not considered as a pragmatic approach towards a dyslexic patient. What if the kid acted in the hostel & the resident school in the same way as he was acting at home, not even listening to his parents for one single instance. For how long would Aamir Khan as a teacher would have tolerated him ?????? I mean why is his brother (in the end) shown loosing tennis game & how is that going to help the parents understand their other kid’s importance ????? I took the whole film as a fantasy ride same as other romantic & melodramatic films. When I watched it for the first time, I thought it is a great film, but when I watched it for second time, I was really bored……
If it gets the Oscars, it would totally belong to Darsheel Safary……….. Hats off to his acting skills. Nothing really great about direction & script. I personally don’t like to see Aamir khan, who doesn’t even respect any Indian films or national awards, going for Oscar awards representing INDIA.

Whether Aamir is interested in collecting awards etc doesn't matter. Fact is his dedication and interest in movie-making shows in the end product. I would gladly accept his alledged snobbish attitude if he can make GOOD, CLASSY movies. That speaks volumes about his commitment to art than all the fake claps and smiles in a fake award ceremony. That's my opinion...
I don't have first hand information on how Oscars decide on a winner but I don't think a movie has to have universal appeal or be liked by the west for it to be a winner. You can read about past movies.
What would be unique and what would be freedom of expression - that is the essence of art - if nominated movies were all to be within boundaries and boxed creatively? Emotions are part of Indian cinemas...win with it or lose with it
I support movies such as TZP gazillion times over crap like Water.
