IT IS ALL ABOUT NEW IMMGRANTS WHO COME TO CANADA I THINK IT IS VERY HARD FOR THEM TO GET DRIVING LICENCE EVEN THEY HAVE DRIVEN THERE CAR SINCE SO MANY YEARS AND AT THE SAME TIME THEY ARE WELL EDUCATED . EVEN YOU HAVE PASSED KNOWLEDGE TEST YOU HAVE TO PASS ROAD TEST WHICH WILL GET LONG TIME TO GET REGISTERED ON LINE AND FOR GOD FORBIDEN IF YOU ARE FAIL THEN YOU HAVE TO WAIT MINIMUM 15 DAYS TO RE REGISTER.
I THINK LAWS SHOULD BE LITTLE RELAXED FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING TO GET LICENCE UNDER CATAGERY 5 AS GOVT OF CANADA IS GIVING LICENCE TO CATAGRY 5 DIRCTLY WHO HAVE DRIVEN CAR IN THERE COUNTRY FOR SOME SPECIFIED TIME
AS IT IS VERY DIFFICULT FOR ONE TO GET A FRIEND WHO HOLDS LICENCE TO ACOMAPNY YOU WHEN YOU HAVE LEARNER LICNECE AFTER PASSING KNOWLEDGE TEST BUT CAN NOT DRIVE ON YOUR OWN, HOW CAN CANADA GOVT THINK A NEW IMMIGRANT WHO IS LOOKING OUT FOR JOB, HOUSE AND OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS TO TAKE CARE OF HIMSELF AND FAMILY CAN DO ALL THEESE WITHOUT DRIVING LICENCE OR TO DEPEND ON SOMEBODY WHEN HE DONT NO MANY OF THE PEOPLE IN THIS NEW COUNTRY WHERE EVERYONE IS MORE WORRIED ABOUT HIMSELF RATHER THAN TO GIVE YOU COMAPANYY TO GIVE YOU RIDE OR GET YOU LECENCE.
I KNOW THERE ARE DRIVING SCHOOLS AROUND BUT TP PASS ROAD TEST IS HELL OF A JOB AND TIME CONSUMING. I THINK GOVT OF CANADA SHOULD REALY LOOK INTO IT SERIOUSLY.

I know how you feel coming to a new place. But you should have anticipated all of these, since you knew very little about it. You also did not have any friends here nor did you see this web site before to ask us how to go about it.

Here they expect you to go to a Professional Instructor to learn the skills. Also they expect you to get through at your own pace in the first few months. So, you prioritize your requirements and then do them in that order. We all had to crawl, walk and then learn to run before we started with the four wheelers. These are the pangs that one has to go through in the initial stages. I can only empathize with you.

Even though you are educated, and experienced in driving, it is entirely a different system here and it is worth your while learning the local system and know the other environmental conditions that will place different demands upon your skills and abilities as time progresses. Once you go through the test and you are on your own, you will realize what it is that you have gone through and what you are expected to do here in Canada after the test.

Just for starters, do tell us what it is that you are expected to do when you get into a very minor accident?

Please see if this helps:

http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/exchange.htm

If you anticipated all of these hoops and hurdles that you have to jump through, then, you would have come prepared for it. Now that you are here, see if the above two links will help you any.? How well you were prepared even for the basics?

Hope this helps.

Good Luck.

Freddie.

Thanks for your advice and i am been doing same since last few months lets hope it will get over by getting my driving license as soon as possible and still hope some consideration towards road test for calss 5 should be considered bylittle simplefication allowing them to drive without accompanying any licensed driver till they pass road test as in other countries, by imposing some extra penalty on their default so that they can overcome the problem of feeling little harsh on them (as i said keeping in mind full safety of other people on road.)

Did you get an International Driver's Permit from the country you were moving from? If you had, you could have probably driven all by yourself from day one without expecting anyone else to take you for a road test.

If you have been driving back home, I don't see a reason you should even need those driving instructors. Yes, a lot of laws are different and depending on the country you are moving from, it is possible that you have to drive on 'the other side of the road' in North America. But in no way it can be called a 'hell of a job'. It is just a driver's license.

And what exactly should Govt. of Canada look into? Like hand over a DL to anybody getting off an International flight at Pearson?

The Govt of Canada wants you to work in the labour factories for atleast one year (if you are not in IT / Finance / CA) and to use the TTC at that time. So once you work for around 1 year in various factories, you may find some friends and you may also save up some money to buy the car and spend atleast $1000 on driving lessons / road test / atleast 2 failures in road test etc...
It is the system here and one more factor how new immigrants are being gouged for deciding to immigrate to Canada.
Hope this helps.

Peace
