Hi to all.
Iam new to this forum and I have just joined, but I have been going through this forum and it has been of great help,Our family has got immigration visa i.e my Dad was the principal applicant and just recently 2 months back we got our passports stamped with visa.Iam currently working as a analyst in a good company earning 6 lacs pa.Iam an engineer in electronics and i have done my PGDBA in Marketing and Systems.Iam worried should I leave my current job and go to canada because after doing lot of research i have found that its a difficult task to get a decent job in canada. So I wanted to know if i come there and study a 1 yr course from george brown college or centennial college may be a course in Computer programmer analyst or Information Systems business analyst will education in canada help me to get a decent job??Is the move to go canada is worth taking?Iam right now 26 and single..so I dont knw whether i shud go ahead with the plans or just stay back in india and get settled here..MY main issue is JOB thats it..whether I can establish myself in canada after doing studies atleast..otherwise i have no problems because iam leading a decent life here..I know the final decision is mine..but an opinion would be of help to me

Possible take a small vacation in India ,come here with your family apply PR card etc. if you want you can go back to india .

If you are working in IT then there is no need to do any course, IT is same any where in the world.

You can start looking into workopolis.com,monster.ca , dice.com etc websites and make sure you are suitable for any of this jobs are not. If you feel you are fit , then start foalting your resume.

In canada every thing works on luck.

since you are 26 and you have plenty of time to settle down.

If I am in your age , I will try a shot.

But before submitting resumes, please do google and find out how your resume should look like.

See basically you are selling your self, so you have explain your role clearly in each project.

All the best

I'll suggest following way:

Visit workopolis, monster.ca and the canadian companies website for current openings. Prepare your resume accordingly while you are in India. Cover letter and strong resume will help you to success. So, take enough time to prepare your resume.

Come with family for 1.5 month to 2 month vacation in Canada . Apply for PR and get SIN number. Start to apply for jobs by visiting website of companies or consulting company. 2 month is not enough to understand canadian culture requirement and interview experience (Also, market will be down for coming year) but some time it works. Try your best.

If you are not getting job or not hoping to get job in short time. Go back to India and start your existing job. Keep trying to search job in Canada from India. (Mention you are PR of Canada and can join the job in 2/3 week if you get an offer. Lot of company offer the job by phone interview if you are away from the company. If you get an offer, you can come down to Canada to settle down)

Note: This is North America. Job is not guarantee. You can get laid off any time even if you have worked for many years for the same company. So, always have to be ready with the situation where you don't have job and look for another job. After initial experience, you will develop the confident to look for another job.

Best of Luck.

Hey thanks a lot for prompt replies,I just wanted to know how is the situation in canada in terms of job since recession is going on everywhere. Some ppl are saying canada is not that affected by recession as US is being affected. The immigration consultant who processed our application told that just last month 1 lakh jobs are being created where as one of my friend told me that people are getting laid off.Today i went to education counsellor to enquire about my further education in canada,he told me of course recession is going on but yes if i try i may get a job also, instead he definitely told that since Iam going for education the recession may be over by the time i get education and i wud have gained canadian education too.I just wanted to know whats the take of u guys on this?Iam still thinking on this

Its right that 1 lakh jobs were created but those jobs were just temporary for the election purpose. If you want to see the latest news read this

100000 jobs to be lost in first quarter of 2009

When I landed here in canada before 4 years, there were around 4-5 pages in the career section of leading newspapers. There were around 10-15 new posting related to my field in job websites daily. Last week when I was looking at the career section of Toronto Star, you won't believe that it was only 1/2 page & almost looked like a corner advertisement. There are not a single posting on the job website related to my field in last 15-20 days.

I don't want to discourage anybody but at the same time I don't want you to be misleaded by other people.

Hope everybody agree with me.....

Infosys encourages employees to go on a sabbatical

In the first time ever kind of move, Infosys has provided an option to employees to go on a sabbatical and work for NGO’s for a year. For an employee to qualify, he or she should be with Infosys for at least 2 years. Employees will be paid 50% salary during this time and the rest can be recovered from the NGO’s they are working with.

This news caught attention for two reasons. One is the salary cut element. The other is the non-governmental organization (NGO) and Corporate Social Responsibility element. When you go through the newspapers, what you see is either the job cuts or salary cuts or both. This is in addition to the bankruptcy and the recession talk. The job cuts are mostly coming from global companies but, Indian companies are not far behind.

Labor laws are a little strict in India and protect the employees in the private sector to some extent. This restriction has forced companies to look at alternative ways for reducing cost and work force. For this they are employing innovative ways. Weeding out non performers, firing over fudged bills and threatening to terminate are the things we have seen so far. But, 50% salary cut and going on a sabbatical is very new, innovative and takes the cake.

Which one do you think is the right reason : cost cutting or social responsibility? The timing of the move has coincided with turbulent times of worsening global economy.

Here are recent Job cuts announced

Citigroup to cut 10%
Sun Micro to cut 18%
Yahoo to cut 10%
Goldman Sach 10%
Morgan Stanley 10%
American Express to cut 10%
Wells fargo to cut thousands of Jobs
DHL to cut 9500 jobs
Gannett to cut 3000 Jobs
LAT to cut 10%
Nortel to cut 1300
GM, Ford to cut thousands of jobs

I definitely would give it a shot... given your age and status.....you can take a long leave and try it out here...... recession is hitting everywhere in the world.... with the timing just a little hesitant..... so far most of the people who came here have settled eventually, if not as soon as they come....... once you are settled, in my opinion it is a great country to be in...... I love this place

All the best and hope you make the right decision in the long term....
:)
