I apply only to direct employer jobs not to agency.
Few months back when i was looking for a new job i got pretty good response from Employers. I am in Finance field and I have no certifications but still i get interview calls from employers who are seriouly looking for CGA's . But end up hiring me.
i found a job with a major bank and they called me within a week of applying
and i was just a month old in the country without any canadian experience
,amend your biodata a bit maybe that will help.

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
I got my very first job in a non-desi company through workopolis. And this was also way back in 2000 just before the dot com collapse. So I'd say there was a substantial dosage of luck.
Subsequently though anytime I posted, I have received calls from recruiters not from companies. The way you can take advantage of Monster and/or Workopolis is to subscribe to their newsletter and/or job alerts based on keywords which could be a bunch from your skillset.
You keep an eye out for suitable postings from companies when you get the alerts and apply directly. Also, when you apply to a particular posting of interest, take your time to write a good Cover Letter and tailor your resume accordingly.
One tip I got from an experienced recruiter was to convey what you can actually do for the company in your cover letter - specifically the posting - rather than simply send your resume which only has what you have done but does not tell the employer what you can do.
Only a CV needs to be detailed...keep you resume short and concise such that the employer can call you for an interview to find out more about you. This way you will also be able to speak to your skills and elaborate it the way a piece of paper cannot do.

I also got jon though Workopolis
Loser,
Did you try talking / getting references (resume) from your field knowers? May be, if you throw in a request, lot of CD members I have read through, have been working in the oil industry and that, they can pass on their Resume for tweaking.
Try it out... Never know, what works out when!
And just NEVER GIVE UP (may be a change in your screen name to 'WINNER' may help boost your morale too ;-) Just kiddin..
