We became PR on Apr'05. After 15 days we went back to my workplace to finish my contract. Came to live permanently on Jan'06. I was invited as a visiting professor from an university outside Canada for one month. So my family can apply for citizenship on Jan'09 and me on Feb'09. My question is -

1. Is it better that me and my wife apply separately? Since her case is a simple one, she can get it easily.

2. Do we need to submit copy of passport, copy of boarding pass with the application to show the entry and exit dates? Is copy of electronic ticket OK?

3. Do I need to submit invitetion letter from the university to explain the reason of my one month absence?

4. What other documents is essential to submit other than landing paper, ID and Photo?

Thank you in advance to all contributors.

1) It is your call. Decide what suits you best. (If I were you, I will apply together)

2) Any format to tell them the arrival and departure dates attached to the application will be fine. (COPIES)

3) Not necessary. Just file as if you were absent or were on holidays. But keep the invitation letter on file with you if you are called to explain.

4)Please check the submission list and verify against it and also submit the check list. (Keep copies for your files)

Hope this helps you a little.

Freddie.

Some applications and guides used in Canada are only available by contacting the CIC Call Centre.

For information on citizenship and immigration programs and services, including the Permanent Resident Card program.

1 888 242‑2100 (in Canada only) They are available Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., your local time, except for statutory holidays.

Tips for clients

Since call volumes are higher on Mondays and Tuesdays, you are encouraged to contact the Call Centre later in the week.

As an alternative to the Call Centre, you are also encouraged to obtain information on CIC’s programs and services on this website. For example, you can:

* order or download and print application kits
* Check application processing times
* Check the status of your application
* Pay your fees or print an official receipt
* Check if you are eligible to apply for citizenship
* Change or notify us of a change of address

All they want is the Date of Birth as noted on the landing papers. Marriage certificate if asked. Hang onto originals.

Freddie.
