Hi Guys,
I have few question about parental EI benefits. My son was born in July 2008. My wife had not enough hours worked in past so she was not eligible for parental benefits. I didn't want to go on parental leave. So we have not used our parental benefits yet.
But now, my wife has finished her 600 required hours to become eligible for parental benefits. We have plan to applying for parental benefit as Service Canada told us we can apply and get benefits upto the 1 year age of child. Now, I am also ready to take 1 month parental benefit. So we would like to share benefits.
Consider my wife will be eligible for $200 / week (as per her income) and she will get her benefits for 6 weeks.
After 6 week, I would like to get benefit for next 4 week.
How much I would get during this 4 week? [I am expeciting to get maximum on base of my income. What is maximum amount?]
Then my wife will continue to get benefits. Again she will get $200 / week on base of her income.
When should I have to inform to service canada about my plan of sharing EI benefits? (May be at the time when applying online)
Do I need to inform exact dates when I am applying online? If there will be any change in plan (change in dates), how to inform them?
When should I submit my ROE?
Thanks

It looks like no one has experience of sharing parental benefits.
One more question here:
While I'll on parental leave, my wife must go back to work? [In my case, she is not going back to work during that time. We both will be with child. Is it okay?]
Thanks

I am not from Toronto but i can give u some feedback based on Quebec _ Montreal parental plan
based on Quebec Parental issuance plan ( may be similar in Toronto) - Basic plan
# maternity benefits - 18 week - your wife must take
# paternity benefits - 5 week - you must take
# parental benefits - (7+25=32) - you can share

your question: my wife has finished her 600 required hours to become eligible for parental benefits.
No, as long as your wife has work 2000 $ in last 52 weeks - she can apply for parental - benefits will be low
While I'll on parental leave, my wife must go back to work? [In my case, she is not going back to work during that time. We both will be with child. Is it okay?]
it dosent matter if your wife goes to work or not but at same time either u or wife can not share parental benefits - (7+25=32) - only one person get benefits - but no harm if your wife stay home - u can still receive parental benefits.

One more point here. I just come to know from my colleague that My wife and me both can have parental benefits at same time maximum upto 37 weeks.
So, my wife can have benefits from today to 1 year age of my child (approx. 26 weeks). And I can ask for parental benefits for 11 weeks or less (Int my case it will be 4 weeks) during this time.
Is this right?
If yes,
1) two weeks waiting period will apply to my wife only not to me as she is starting to take benefits first. Am I right?
2) Should I have to apply saperately when I'll go on parental leave?
3) After online application, service canada will call back us for any kind of confirmation before starting benefits?
Looking for guidance from experience guys.
Thanks
