In addition to creams and lotions of your choice, also turn down your indoor heating temperature by a couple of degrees or more.
Indoor heating circulates dry air.
Also run a humidifier.
Humidity is very good for skin.
If you don't have a built in humidifier, get a warm mist humidifier ($20 - $40 at WMT or CT).
Avoid contact of your skin with water as far as possible (other than regular shower and washing), esp. hot water.
If condition persists beyond a week or 10 days, ask your Dr. to refer you to a dermatologist.
There are prescription creams for such conditions.

Right now I am using vaseline white petroleum jelly. Sicky though. This evening I will look out for other stuff.
It's so darn cold here, -28 C this morning without wind chill. With the public transit strike things are really messed up.
