Here are some activities going to happen this year for me
My PR will be expiring by end of June 2009
My Indian Passport is expiring around May 2009
I am eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship for last 2 months
So what should I do first ?
My undertanding is apply for Canadian Citizenship ASAP, after that send application for PR renewal and finally apply for renewal for Indian Passport
Is that a correct sequence?
While applying for Canadian Citizenship, did validity of Indian Pasport and Validity of PR will be a major concern?
Thanks
First things first.
Canadian citizenship will take approx 12 months.
Till that time, I would suggest holding VALID Indian passport all the time. You never know when you'll need that.
As I understand, expired PR card does not make your status invalid. It's just the card that's expiring. Not you status.
** CDs, please provide inputs if this is incorrect.**
Next, in your Indian passport renewal application, you will have to answer following question:
"Have you applied for citizenship of any other country?"
(I agree, I don't remember the exact question. But it's sure something like this)
Now I don't know the consequences of answering "Yes" to this question. But I would prefer not to take any chances
In your Indian passport renewal application, you have to provide your original PR card. (Atleast they made me so .. in Oct '08). I did received my PR card back with my new passport within 2 weeks.
My recommendations, keep the citizenship application the last. Start with PR card or whatever you prefer depending on available time.
Thanks sville,
But my undertanding was application to Canadian Citizenship usually takes more than year.
So logically I should apply First for Can Citizenship & then apply for PR renewal as well renewal of Indian passport
As both PR & Indian Passport is still valid for another 5-6 months
Also If I wait for PR & Indian Passport to renew first, then I am wasting another 2-3 months for Canadian Citizenship application
But not sure, while applying Can-citizenship any requirement for PR & Indian Passport. Like it should be valid for atleast 6 months etc etc
As we all know, PR renewal usually takes 6-8 weeks while Indian passport renewal can take 45 days
Can someone confirm me ?
Quote:While they say 45 days to cover themselves, usually it takes 2 weeks or so including mailing time.

Totally support pratickm.
I'd say approx 12 months (10 to 15 months) for citizenship.
