I have badly cough for last two days. I bought 2 cough syrup from Walmart over the counter but didnt work. I couldnt sleep the whole night. I have dry cough. Can anybody tell me best cough syrup for quick releif so that I could sleep for a while.

There are 2 types of cough -- dry and wet ... wet ones are due to congestion in the chest and shorter in duration ..... the dry ones are longer and more irritating ..... their treatment is different .... expectorant like Benadryl for wet and supressant like Linctus (mixed with lukewarm water ) for dry cough ..... These generic names are from India though I m sure similar should be available in Canada as well ..

I have observed from personal experience sleep and cough are kind of independent .... but once we sleep , we don't cough ... maybe if you can take a sedative for sleeping that should help .... Alternatively I recall expectorant cough syrups like Benadryl have sedative and a written warning against driving ...

In you case take a supressant syrup like Codeine linctus BP ... 3 times a day with lukewarm water .
