It has been in the news recently that many telemarketers are abusing the DNCL by registering themselves as businesses and gaining legal access to the list.
Then they are using the list to call people.
After a while, they "disappear" and register a different business and repeat the process.

Also, often, they outsource the marketing calls to call centers abroad (like in India or the Carribean islands) where the Canadian DNCL laws do not apply.

You are wrong. Outsourcing marketing calls to outside of Canada absolutely does NOT absolve the company from violation of privacy. Bell Canada has outsourced call centres to India. Once you are registered with DNC they cannot call you.

They did.
I complained.
Now they don't.
Haven't in months!

Simple...at least in the case of Bell...

Rogers used to call me as well. I wrote a letter stating I will go to the privacy comissioner (have no idea who that is) if they don't stop calling me and they unsubscribed me from all their marketing calls as well.

Oh really?
Maybe I'll give them your number next time I get a call from the Caymans telling me about this great vacation resort.
Or from Spain that I have won $1M lottery.

Sure, but you are talking about genuine companies.
The current scam is being run by paper companies - those that are registered and have all the paperwork but are not real.
It was in the news.

I seldom receive calls from genuine companies like Bell, Rogers.
Most of the callers are long-distance service companies, lotteries, vacation resorts, magazines, etc. - all calling from abroad.

I have call screening anyway, so don't have to pick up.

Hey, keep it down will ya Mr. Moderator? There's a law against drug trafficking. Does that mean there's no drug trafficking? Spamming is illegal. Don't you still get emails about some damn inheritance?

I am stating facts. That does not mean companies will not break the rules.

Moderation has nothing to do with this discussion.
I am allowed to post as a normal user, am I not?

Anyway, I was refering to a new item which was on 680 news and on City News too.

I don't subscribe to the DNCL so either way it doesn't matter for me.
