Somehow I am not happy about it...to me it seems like they (britishers) won award by using indian problems...and i know my thinking is not right bcos they won for camera work, script etc but cant help it, i feel that way.......

I agree with you Aashu... to me also it appeared as if brits encashed on indian problems .... now I can see why AB was crying.... what interest that brit guy would have in showing the slums in right perspective .... and why would he care if the idea (though truth but not the whole truth) may jeapardize indian image or indian's sentiment... as long as movie earned him what it did...

I am however happy to see ARR winning 2 oscars... though this certainly was not ARR's best work ....

What is the 'right perspective' slums should be shown in????

Let us not go overboard on this 'showing India' in correct light stuff. An Indian theme film won in the documentary category too(Smile Pinki), how many of us are talking about it???

This is entertainment. Everybody loves a story where the underdog beats the odds and wins! Be it 'Rocky' in the late 70s or something like SM now...

Let us celebrate for and with this excellent team that won the underdog story, on screen and in real!!

I agree with Aashu's point. India is much more than just people living in slums. But the problem is that a middle class or a rich Indian's life may not be appealing to middle class western audience.

Had Aamir khan concentrated less on melodrama and more on substance, "Taare Zameen Par" could have atleast made it to last 5.

Because it is a short documentary and not everybody knew about that movie. Also, the theme is Indian but is made by a westerner. Had that documentary given proper publicity and released commercially, people would have vouched for that movie
