Hello everyone,

I've been in Canada for about 10 years and really like it here. Well, today one of my relatives from India called my parents to ask if I'd like to get married & settle in India - they know a family who's looking for a girl. So my parents told them that I'd prefer to stay in Canada (which is true). Mom even confirmed it with me later and I said I want to stay here.

But since then I've had this weird gut feeling, almost like something's nagging me about why I refused. So I'm confused now... if a marriage proposal comes my way, should I accept it if the guy is really good but is in India. or should I just try to settle here?

Sorry if the question seems confusing, I'm confused myself right now

No harm in meeting/fonding out more about the guy first right....if it really works out for you both, where you stay can be negotiated....if either side has rigid pre conditions, it may not augur well for the relationship in any case....

The tug of the home country is always there, but that should, IMHO, not be linked to your choice of a partner for life....

Good luck. Keep us posted :)

I know a few cases where marriages have broken because the couples priorities lie at different places. Staying in canada or india is too big a difference to ignore.. going back to india is not a joke for someone who has been here 10 years.. more often than not after a year or 2 u would want to come back to canada..

if u like to live here u should look for someone with similar aspirations..

The answer lies within you and your personality. To enter into a marriage you have to first know yourself very well. Are you the adjusting type or do you want your way always? Marriage is a big adjustment and to add to that adjusting to a different environment will take its toll.

Try to visualize the problems you may encounter, accept that you will deal with them and take your decision accordingly.

I am not too sure, but you maybe jumping to conclusions too soon. If you are talking about marraige and moving to India EVEN before looking at the person, evaluating your likeness - its too early.

Ideally, you will meet the person, (in the event you like him initially) get to know each other for atleast a year and then get a feel of things what is good for BOTH of you. It is possible, he is interested to come to Canada and might have a good future..you never know.

Just cross the bridge when you come to it - dont get judgemental before the actual event.

Both INDIA and CANADA are good in thier own unique ways, there is no comparision - the decision will be yours AFTER you have evaluated the other aspects of marraige.

Good luck.

Hiren

Get married , go to India. Your heart is there. Don,t trap yourself in the golden cage of Canada.

I have to agree with Loser :) it does look like you have leaned favourably towards moving to India. Go for it.
