Hi All,

I wanted to ask a question which I could not find the answer to in charcha or the CIC website. Under the Skilled workers and professionals class immigration, they ask the following (with a note as below)

-------------
Have you

* completed qualifying* post-secondary studies in Canada, OR
* worked full-time temporarily in Canada within the last three years?

Note: You must have had a proper study visa or work permit. *A qualifying credential must involve at least two years of full-time study at a public post-secondary institution, or a private institution authorized by the province to grant degrees.
-------------

Can anyone provide more details about what they mean by qualifying credential. For example, if I register for "Certificate" course (2 years) at any College in Toronto (eg Humber, Mohawk), will it be considered as a qualifying post-secondary study?

Replies or links providing me this information is much appreciated.

Regards and Thanks...

YES.

Our Secondary School system finishes here with Grade twelve (12). In some countries at 10. Then you do the extra two years to enter into the University. Hence the 10 + 2.

Any studies in any college or University constitutes Post Secondary Education.

Here in this country: Here you enter into colleges after the grade twelve.
Colleges generally provide you with a Diploma. A few call it a Certificate also. Some of these Diplomas will enable to go further into the Universities based upon this diploma. There you enter into a Degree program. You are given the credit for such completion. For this you consult with the University that you want to enter.

Here in Canada: But the entry is also after the grade twelve.
Universities are the ones that provide you with a Degree. There are some that need three year study and there are some that need four years.

So after Grade 12 you have a choice to enter either a College OR a University.

Here are some good links that will provide you with good questions and answers and you can get a good grasp of the educational system that is prevailing here.

Hope this helps you a little.
