Hello there,
You are guys are doing great job over here. Thanks for such a great contribution.
I am an international student here. My to-be wife is a landed immigrant (she landed as a dependent).
We both are living together since she landed. My study is completing in June and I am planning to marry and apply for my PR as SPOUSE.
We are living together in Canada, plus I know my to-be wife since 8 years...studied together, lived together and even now together. So everything is legitimate. I am also planning to do the marriage with rituals here and make show of everything...to make everything sound GENUINE.
But......my wife is working currently in tim hortons and mcdonalds..(2 jobs) and she will be file her first income tax return NOW...she is earning not so much..jz basic....plus I am also a student ....and getting funds from my parents and my to-be-wife...WILL THIS AFFECT MY APPLICATION....however by the time I apply for PR after marriage...I WILL be having POST GRAD WORK PERMIT...and will be working somewhr ..(if not in my field).............Will it suffice....or my wife ?(sponsor) has to be real RICH....to sponsor me.....
One last question....after my application is approved....can my wife and I appply for OSAP and study further.....if not me then CAN SHE APPLY AT LEAST>>or there are bounds on this tooo....
Please reply and oblige.. I will call you guys on my marriage.....Waiting curiously for your reply EXPERTS>>>>>>>
thanks
Satbeer
This is only a suggestion. You both go to the city hall and get a Marriage license and make it legal. Then apply for the sponsorship from within Canada.
After she works for an year, let her apply for the OSAP and she will get some assistance there. Get into a nice course and then apply, that will provide her the status. See which College or University that has the course that she will like to get into. You can get most of the details from any library. For that you will need a library Card also for the use of books etc., If you have not got one yet then get one while you are there.
While the Application Process is in progress, you will be working here in Canada with the permit you are hoping to get. It will take a good 12-18 months for the process to complete. So plan on extending your stay here with an extension about three months before the expiry of the work permit.
You don't have to be rich or loaded. Just two ordinary people getting married with a basic income to support each other will do. Make sure that you have at least that amount to back you both. You can certainly go through the rituals any time you both are ready.
Please keep track of all of the happenings with date and time. Save all of the rental receipts, bills, joint tenancy, any pictures and any other expenses that you both incur for day to day needs etc., it will come handy if they probe into it. Also open a joint account in a bank nearby, if you have not done that yet. After you get married you apply for and get a OHIP card for yourself too. If there is a name change, then go through the name change ritual also.
Good Luck.
Freddie.
Congrats in advance - I know a case, the guy came here 8 yrs back and applied for refugee, he was rejected 3 times and 6 yrs back he met one gori and fell in love, they start to live together
after getting 3 times refuse, he applied as spouse visas - she earns around $10 per hour and work part time and i heard that she was on welfare too. After applying for one year (as he came from the US) after sept 11, that was his case was taking long (for security check), he got approved last week and very happy. better to applied as spouse it wont take long.
It will be easy for u to get the visas as long as both bills come to one address and keep all documents that shows ur relation to her.
Regarding OSAP as long as u dont have high income, i believe u can get help from the govt ( pls senior desis advice about it)
Good luck

Thank you everyone for ur reply....
ftfl, you have mentioned that this in-canada spouse application may take 12-18 months ...........i heard it takes around 6 months....should i apply from outside canada...i think it will be faster....
if it is 12-18 months then HOW WOULD I GO ALONG EXTENDING MY VISAS HERE!!!!
pls suggest...thank u once again
If it is SIX months as you have stated from your sources, then you come out ahead of the game.
If your application is in process and you have married a Canadian, they look at it from a different angle and extend the same for the fee. If they keep mum, then you have nothing to worry. But you cannot Leave Canada, for any reason, while things are in limbo. It will jeopardize the situation. If you have that extension, then the situation changes.
Go and link up with Mr. Kalra and he will do all the needful and will assist you further. That saves us all the guess work. He might also have the time lines at his office. You are in good hands there.
Congratulations and Good Luck.
Freddie.
EDIT: Yes I did investigate the postings in the "Time it takes to process" It says it is six months , but it says for the initial processing. So, go to Mr.Kalra and get it straightened out.
Thank you so much Freddie for your reply.
I will definitely hook up with Mr. Kalra.....so that everything is made simpler.
Thanks again so much for your reply and help. Appreciate it.
Have a good Sunday!
