NM,
Let me answer your Q with a simple true example that happened in 2002.
I immigrated to canada in 2002 and found 3 friends (desi) in Canada with whom I shared a 2 bed apt.. One of them saw a newspaper advt of one " Desi and Associates" (name changed for obvious reasons) who promised the same as it was promised to you. Their main point was that they would give a good Canaidan reference to the employer and that would get the candidate 80K to 100 K job for sure in a matter of weeks. Since this guy was returned from the Gulf and he had a feeling that all Canadian born / educated guys were fools and that once he had a reference, he could be the boss of 'em all. So he paid $3000 for the service.
Result : They used to send him the same job vacancies (automated) as was found in leading job search websites. No one cared for this 'Desi and Associates" reference. They e-mailed him a couple of std. mails as to how to write resumes, cover letters etc ..Though they said that you could use an online live chat with a professional for help and I donot know if he used it or not.

conclusion : any one / firm taht asks for money for any services is not worth it.

Peace by TK

Hi,

Look at the link for the coop program for new comers to get a job in their field. Many people get job through this program.

http://www.dpcdsb.org/CEC/CNE/Adult+Centres/Brian+J+Fleming+Centre/Coop/Foreign-Trained+Professional+Co-op.htm

Your wife could upgrade herself through this program and find a job.

Good Luck!

Desi's Please beware of *** careers, ** Group International

Modus Operandi,

They would give you a call and say they would help you get a job.
They would meet you once and next time ask you to come with your wife and family.
Then in some way you would be told that your resume, your interview techniques etc needs to be reworked.
They would charge you say for eg $ 5000/- to get you the job.
The break up is almost 80% for the services they render and 20% for the job guarantee ( I forget the exact nos but it is similar to this)

So in event they are not able to get you a job, and you do end up suing them, you can only get 20% of the amount, as the balance is to their services like resume writing, job readyness training etc.

I had this experience with them 3 years ago. I had asked them that yes ,I am willing to pay the money , only after I get the job and I finish probation. They said they would need money upfront. Further the contract they wave on your face, they expect to sign there, do not let you take a copy to read overnight.

The reception would show offices all over the world. IF you ask them for contact info for anywhere else, they / their website has no info.

Please read the links below. and in a nut shell, DO NOT GO TO ANYONE WHO CHARGES YOU TO GET A JOB.

Another point to notice is that very few people who have been in this country for more than a year are contacted by this agency.

Yes, this is what happened to me.

I met with a guy on friday. He said that what i lack is Networking in this country, and their company helped lots of immgrants coming from Gulf in the past. He told me to bring my wife also for the second meeting, on saturday itself the next day to my first meeting. I was obviously not ready for this "paid service" and i said i will again confirm the date for next meeting.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience here as people will stay away from such scam in the future.

Guys,
Hope you are aware that CD does not permit naming names (companies , organisations). CD could be liable to sued and also be compelled to give the IP addresses of the posters who defame companies / individuals and then the posters would be sued by these companies / individuals for defamation. getting money from defamation cases is a very big business in Canada.
So please do use caution in the future and do edit your posts to delete names.

Peace by TK
