I found out that Victoria BC has nice and warm weather all year around, I want to know how is the job scenario and other factors in Victoria BC
Hi there,
Hope you won't mind an exhaustive review of the city you have queried about.
Victoria is the capital of BC - a beautiful city on Vancouver Island with picturesque and Victorian era's historic buildings. It's a city but at the same time gives you the feel and warmth of small town. It's magnificent parliament building on Govt. street takes your breath away with it's beautiful architecture. The city has a majority of Caucasian population and Desi's are hard to come across. It's basically a retirement city/town. People across Canada settle here after retirement due to it's stress free, laidback life and a beautiful weather year around.
A 1.5 - 2.0 hours ferry ride from Vancouver mainland, which I personally feel everyone to experience once. Imagine you're sailing across a beautiful sea surrounded by small islands and a distant mountains. The city comes alive in summer with the hanging flower baskets cover each nook and corner of it's downtown core. Google for pictures.
Climate: Mildest in Canada. Beautiful in summer with endless outdoor activities. Rainy in winters, but one can manage without a severe winters.
Employment: Just like in Ottawa, most of the jobs here comprise of Govt. and Provincial. Except tourism and the Govt., the city doesn't have any significant industry. However, you may still find a VERY few IT, services, and financial sector jobs. The key is to find one before you move. I won't advise to move there blindly without a job.
If you're really looking for West Coast living, then Vancouver is what you may look for. Beautiful and a big city, with vibrant mix of all cultures, immigrants, and a mildest climate in Canada and a relatively good job market you can get your foothold. Hey! You could also have an option to visit Victoria on the weekends and come back the same day (Bonus). By the way, I have just watched on TV that Mercer's report on living index ranked Vancouver as no.1 in the quality of life survey. But, alas! You need to have a job to enjoy all this, no? BC has endless parks, lakes, mountain resorts in the whole NA(all within approx. 1.5 hours of drive from Vancouver)
So, the big question is this. Do you have any job lined up here? Currently, economy is not doing any good and jobs are hard to come by. Please, please, please, if you're in Toronto and have a job - don't move. I can't stress enough on it. If you are fascinated by the province's natural beauty then first land a job, then move. If you're a newcomer, then decide between Toronto and Vancouver. I would also rate Toronto almost at part with Vancouver on the quality of life. The big plus there is affordable real estate (It sux here!!!).
Hope it helps. Good luck.
