The Indian consulate used to have a provision where you could type in the UPS tracking number and it would tell you if the tourist visa has been issued or not. Do they still have that? I can't seem to find it on www.cgitoronto website.
The above is in addition to the general info that they still publish that states the date of applications they have processed and mailed so far. Thanks.

A different question(s)...
1. Has anyone had any luck getting through the phone numbers of the Indian consulate in Toronto? There are 4 numbers listed and they all say the same thing. If I try 0 for oper assistance, it either hangs up on me or goes back into the same automated message loop.
2. How about emails? Has anyone had luck receiving a reply?
3. I sent my passport to indian consulate for tourist visa via UPS. They received it on May 1. The status message says "all applications received until May 4 have been mailed back on May 5". However, my UPS return envelope tracking number indicates that the envelope has not left the consulate.
Should I be worried?
Any response will be appreciated. Thanks very much.

It is very hard to get them on the phone but you have keep trying. I know it is very frustrating trying to contact the Indian Consulate in Toronto.
They do reply to selected emails but it can take a few days.
You can wait for a few more days. I am not sure how often UPS website gets updated with the tracking numbers.
For Canadapost tracking numbers, it is probably around midnight each day since I would get the letter/package and only next day I would get email alert saying that it was delivered.

rajcanada,
Thank you.
My wife and I tried calling the consulate from two different phones. She got through, got hung up by a real person (you have to wonder what kind of "professionals" these people are) and then was able to speak to another person who seemed helpful enough. We were told that the return package has been ready and waiting at the reception to be picked up by UPS since yesterday !!
So, I called UPS and they noted that the consulate should have arranged for a pickup by them calling UPS. Yeah, like that's ever gonna happen. Anyway, I have scheduled a pickup with UPS. In any case, I'll believe when my passport shows up at my doorstep tomorrow or monday.
UPS updates tracking info every few hours.
So, would the package sit around at the consulate if we didn't call and find out? I guess, the consulate realizes the passports are more important to us than them and eventually we'll call.
Few years ago, I did the same thing to send the visa application and there was no problem. Now, looks like the consulate and UPS don't like each other

Thanks patrickm.
In general, consulates of a lot of countries just don't seem to cater to phone service. I haven't had much of a luck when I had to contact German, Mexican or US consulates in the past.
The CGI used to have a visa tracker specifically for your case where you could enter the UPS/Fedex or any other tracking number and if the visa had been issued, would display the visa number. They seem to have gotten rid of it.

Hey, just saw the post.
1) I have never found the tracker facility on the website you referred to, so I assume that they don't have it anymore. (only the general 'all applications received by this date have been sent out'
2) They hardly ever answer the phone.
3) Even though they say all visas mailed out, I actually received mine about 5 days after mine was supposed to have been mailed out!
Overally it took about 2.5 weeks.
