I am planning to travel from Mumbai to Toronto on 5th May 2004. I am coming with my family ( wife & 6 yr old Daughter ).

I will be in Toronto for 6 weeks , get my PR card & back to Mumbai to clear up my pending issues. I will finally move after 7 months.

My Question: Is it Advisable to fly by Aeroflot ? Anyone on the forum Who had travelled before by Aeroflot ? please Advise.

Or Any other suggestion for Mumbai - Toronto - Mumbai

Few of my friends travelled with this airline Toronto- Delhi -Toronto. In flight service is good. Transit at the Moscow airport was not that great mainly because of language. Overall , they rated this airline good.
Thanks and regards.

Thanks so much, Biomed, for your prompt reply & the information.

Aeroflot's fare is drastically lower than the other airlines like Air India,

Alitilia, KLM. Makes a difference of INR 13 k per Ticket.

I have never personally flown Aeroflot.
However, whenever I am have flown in or out of New Delhi, I find that their flights are always delayed and passengers are left waiting for several hours.
Also, sometimes passengers travelling to other destinations are left stranded in-transit.
If flying by more "regular" airlines is not working out for you, then go for it, but you should be prepared.

I have used Aeroflot extensively to travel to russia and India.
In Feb 2004 I was destined to fly to Delhi via Moscow. The plane was to leave Toronto at 6 in the evening on a Friday. However they had a major problem with the plane that came on wed. so delayed the flight by 12 hours. No one ever phoned people who had booked the flight and as a result many took taxis to airport in the evening only to be told to return again the following morning. This obviously meant that my connecting flight to delhi which was only 6 hours away will be missed and I will have to wait for next flight which will be on next day !! As I knew Aeroflot very well and was all set for the great drama but what happened next was even beyond my expectations.
We arrived at Moscow airport at 1 in the night instead of 11 in the morning. There were only two female ticket checkers at the airport which was deserted otherwise. All they could do was to issue us a food coupon for a measely $7.00 (which buys you NOTHING) and told us that they have no hotel booking, no other officer is available and we must wait at that stupid dark airport till 10 AM (11 hours) to speak to their supervisor. There were people with kids who too had to sleep on the floor without any food or water after a 9 hour flight. Even the lounge was not offered for the night stay so one could only sleep on the floor
BUT WAIT
The fun just begins.
At 11 AM finally some staff members showed up. They wer even more confused than their juniors and had no clue what to do. They flatly said that there is no Hotel available so we must brave it out. Plus they are going to put all of us, destined to Delhi, on a flight to Bombay which was to leave at 2 PM ( 13 hours after we landed) Then we will have to change airports at Bombay to reach domestic Indian airline which will lead us to Delhi making us reach delhi full 40 hours after we left Toronto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I protested and managed to get myself hooked up on the delhi flight instead which was to leave full 17 hours after I landed.
The airport staff is ridiculous, have no language skills, there are no comfortable chairs to stretch one 's legs. There are not even enough plastic chairs and most are broken anyways. The airport is smaller than most c grade cities in North America.
One can well imagine the plight of all those who were travellign with kids and seniors as to how they must have endured the 17 hour wait at airport. I had taken all precaustions such as take food for 2 days, several books, CD players and a bed sheet to keep my self warm etc.
But those poor fellows who did not know Aeroflot...........................................
