I think it is pretty stupid when canadians refer themselves to North Americans and insist on being just the same as US.

The two countries are very diff. Canadians are canadians why do they like calling themselves "North Americans". Just like you are an Indian and you refer to yourself more as Indian rather than asian.

I think there mentally to be just like USA sucks and they have lost their originality in dooing so and they are not even a good enough copy of US if at all.

fyi: Mexico is part of North America too.

Its the continent that I refer to, when I say NA, and nothing about Nationality. Though lifestyles and cultures are pretty similar atleast for Canada and US.

South-east asian would be a good term to describe peoples from that part of the world ( india/pakistan/bangladesh/srilanka).
The term Indian itself is more indicative of nationality than geographic representation. It is more of a emotional/man-made distinction/tie that we refer to
e.g: A Keralite would probably feel as lost (much more than a Canadian in the US) in Punjab as he would in Iran. At the same time North Indians have more in common with most Pakistanis , compared to Keralites.

I dont see Canada separating from the North American land mass anytime soon so I guess we will be stuck with that name :D

:(
you're right! If you think its crappy then I should probably change.

p.s: when we say desis we refer to south-east asian. Should we change that to 'Indian' too? That would leave out some people here, but what the heck, as long as you're happy :D .

South-east Asia = Indonesia, Malaysia, Burma, Thailand, Singapore etc..

South-Asia = India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh..

don't know why many people substitute South-East Asian for South-Asian..oh well..

cheers
