Pratick,
I was more of thinking about not doing any work in both these countries but just living of the (legal) money that the govt. gives me.
For example, if I could get some $ 20,000 a year from both these countries and with free education/ library / health care, I could lead a decent life. I could earn money by Pizza delivery jobs etc...
Anyway, I was just throwing this legal options. There are a lot of details yet to be worked at. I was getting around $13-$14 in my last job and hence in that perspective, it looked great.
I found out that Australian PR is valid for 5 years but they are asking for around $2100 application fee per person which is on the high side for me now.

Peace by TK

Well, to be fair to him, he's not the only one.
There is a fairly significant number of people who are /already/ living the lifestyle that TK is considering.
Wasn't there a book printed a few years ago on how to live "off the system" and not work?
It's a Canadian book, written by a guy living somewhere in BC (Surrey or Vancouver).
I'm sure for someone who is entirely commited to living like that and focuses all of his/her energy on receiving maximum public payouts it's possible.
But is that the kind of life you want for yourself and your family - that's the real decision to be made.

Hi,

I am also interested in Australia like TK.

What is the EI like their? How many hours does one need to work to qualify?

Also what is the social security system like?

Any Canadian Desi members who have been to Australia please share your
valuable input

Kind Regards

I am not interested in spending 6 months here and 6 months in Australia. Rather to see what better opportunities their may be in Australia.

I concur. But when it comes to cold cdn. winter + a job market which discriminates against brown immigrants (Australia has a better system blocking refugees and its work force is comparitively less competetive when compared to Canada), makes any desi immigrant to take a chance. I have read in rediffmail.com numerous tips as to how to safeguard us from this beating racism.
To give an example : I was at a job search workshop yesterday. I met a cdn. born and educated guy who was unemployed and he attended the job workshop for tips as to how to get a job. he was very demotivated and negetive regarding his job loss and he was around 50 years old.. I blasted the cdn. immigration system and told him as to how the govt. systamatically fools us immigrants by saying stuff like :

80% of all jobs are hidden jobs
The cdn. workforce is going to have massive retirement / baby boomer retirement. (This rumour started from the 1990's and today is May 30,2009)
You will be able to get a good job in 6 months and there will be no turning back after that (personally told to me by the visa officer)

he got very angry and told me that I could not insult his country like this. However he did not phone his buddies to hit/ assault me. So that is the magnanimity of Canadians.

Peace by TK
