Hello...
Has anyone applied for (or received) PAN card from India. I understand you need a PAN number if you want to invest or buy property in India?
Does anyone know the process, how long does it take.... do you have to submit your Canadian passport etc.?
You will need proof of indian address etc. if applying from India. Since you have Canadian passport, you may need to show OCI/PIO card/work visa etc. - not sure what will be asked.
But you can apply with your Canadian address. Go to https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/form49A.html and fill in the Individual form. Leave India address blank and give your Canadian address. Printout, affix photos and send to the Mumbai office with copies of your passport, bank statement, PIO/OCI what ever you have and a cover letter
If you don't have a PAN number, you can fill in Income tax form no. 60 the form is for people who don't have no PAN and want to do a transaction (I am not fully sure if buying property is also a transaction in there but logically it should be). We bought Indian shares via our bank and did not have a PAN no. this is the form the bank asked us to fill in. I hope it works for buying property too, please get it checked from your bank or real estate agent.
This is what it says exactly
"Income Tax FORM NO.60: Form of declaration to be filed by a person who does not have either a permanent account number or General Index Register Number and who makes payment in cash in respect of transaction specified in clauses (a) to (h) of rule 11B"
You just Google the form 60 and will find the blank form on many sites.
Hope it helps a bit.
Jona
Right now I dont have an OCI nor PIO.... is it mandatory for PAN application?
Not for PAN.. but you may need to show it when coming to buying property.
Thanks Jonav, Viggy.
I have been asked to submit attested copies of National ID ( Canadian) from Indian Consulate.
If anyone has applied for PAN card from India as a Canadian citizen, please reply.... since the Canadian Passport nor drivers license has my middle name on it, will it still be accepted as proof of identity?
