German cars are only good to own when you have warranty on them.
If you are financing ensure that you have warranty during the financing period.
For this car budget 150-200$ extra/month on maintainance. You wont spend it every month but whenever there is a issue you will use up the whole accumulated amount..

I personally would not recommend anyone buying Jetta or Golf as couple of my friends have horrible experiences with high maintanence costs. I would strongly recommend (as some others have also) to go for a japanese car instead... Fill up your fuel tank, change oil and oil filter and thats all it needs. Mind you the rates for mechanics are very high in this country. The less you visit a mechanic is better for you pocket.
Stop please do not go ahead with the sale. Link below is to discover prices.
Anyone can check out for free any make and model.

Remember as its a private sale you should get less than the wholesale price as mentioned in the link (my personal suggestion)
A lease is better or sale from a Car dealer as they will warranty on Tranny and Engine.
Also please do not buy a Toyota, Honda is better
Dont buy German cars they have problem in winter, don't start.
Buy japanies or go for American cheap .

If you anticipate driving less than 25,000 kms annually, then I suggest you either lease a new car or purchase a Hyundai or Kia - both may require some financing on your part - but this may help your credit history.
Stay away from Volkswagens. Desis and VWs do not mix....our people are cheap and would not be prepared to pay for the required synthetic oil changes for newer VW engines (turbos/TDI/5 cylinder etc). The beauty of a Toyota or Honda is that they are designed for people who do not like to drive and require an appliance that will take them in comfort from home to the samosa shop and back.
