Has anybody applied for old age pension for their parents who have immigrated from India (or any other country)?

Anything specific to be kept in mind while filling out the forms?

Hello
There are several pension plans for old people. Those who are sponsored by their children, have ten year restriction on them. Which means they are not eligible to get any pension until they complete ten years in canada and contribute enough towards CPP to get OA Pension. However, there are some exceptions to this rule.
Canada has agreement with many countries especially America, Eurpean and east eurpean countries; people who served in these countries who are now living in canada, their service time in other country is taken in to account while processing application for pensions.
Old people(+60) or Disabled people (Less than 60 Years) are eligible to get pension from federal Government.
Provincial government also provide income support to financially broken or people with physical or mental impairements.

For more information call me at 1 647-896-7853

sincerely,

AD

can you elaborate for the benefit of all forum members, rather than us having to call you.

Thank you.

What does CPP have to do with OAS payments?
Seniors are eligible for OAS payments at 65 years of age, subject only to gross income constraints (i.e. clawbacks).
CPP depends purely on contributions. No contributions = No CPP
At least that's my understanding. Can you clarify your statement?

As far as I know ( I may be wrong), you are eligible for a certain amount after 65. When government calculate the actual amount they consider your other incomes too such as income from RRSPs, benefits from CPP and other incom and after adding these incomes whatever shortfall is they will pay you to bring the total benefit to that "certain" amount.

No one can win from the Government :p

I agree completely. Mr. AD, could you please elaborate and help others over here, as people who don't live in TO might not able to call you. This is one subject that has never been discussed here on CD. There are numerous people who sponsor their parents and have a little or no idea about their pension eligibility.

What if my parents are 65 when they immigrate here? Would they be able to get any pension (I highly suspect), or do they have to wait until they attain 75 years? I am asking because at 65, they might not be able to contribute to CPP due to not being employed.

Thank you.

P.S. Hey 'RESP', you're right. You can never win over Govt.
