....if local mechanic doesn't have proper or latest instruments to do the job than light will be come back again within couple of days,
Appreciate if you can throw some more light here. The light will go off only if problem is fixed. When you say the light will come back again, does that mean the same problem will come again? Or it is just the light mechanism?
Thanks

most of the car have code system by manufacturer. So if in your car Engine light comes on that means something wrong with your engine related parts system, bcos. Newer models (i think after 1998 and onwards models) company is installing a mini kind of computer inside the car, which detect entire system of car in cycle. (depends on model and manufacturers). so once during the cycle if computer found some malfunction than it will send a data to computer and light will come on.
you can scan a code with scanner and it will show in your scanner like....P0138, P0149, etcc....This codes have a different meaning of each codes (depends on manufacturers....)some related to sensor, fuel cap loose, transmission, etc....lots of tech. stuff.
What i want to say, if local mechanic really know how to fix the problem than its fine, but if he doesn't know the fix the problem and doesn't reset your data in computer than chances are more to engine light will come back on again...
hope helps a little bit.........
