Well...I resist genaralization. However, I had a professor in the US university who, when we went on overnight industrial trips, would not tip at restaurants. His defense? He is not going to return to the same restaurant and hence who cares.

What can one expect when comparing a 62 year old developing country to much older richer countries?
Also, what is a meager tip? A 10% tip is mostly not good enough these days. In India, labor is cheap.. so tips expected are also low. It's just the opposite in the developed world.

Sixty is matured age.
Our Northern neighbor is also 60 years. Just for the tip, here servers politely refuse to accept tip after a decent service. Not that their salary are big; people, in general are contended hence happy, with smiling faces and above all love their country.
Now, coming to tourism habits, again won't generalize; but I have had some experience when on board there are many Indians. They (Indians) pass derogatory remarks to female staff, keep 'ordering' for freebees (want to make fullest use of money paid), keep showing that they are there and do all to get others' attention. I have seen when staff just gets exhausted and leave the situations as they are. There are cunning smiles then.
