What is so great about being a vegetarian? I am a vegetarian since birth but still don't think anything superior about it.

There are millions of vegetarians in India. There’s nothing special about Gujarat.
Many south Indians work in Gujarat PWD. You know why? Many educated Gujaratis have left the state. Should I say abandoned? Just like ABCD, there is EFG that stands for “Emigrated from Gujarat”. I can add more to it.
Hope you got my point. We desis are already a divided lot. Please don’t start one more fire.

No doubt there are quite a few good developments in Gujarat and Gujaratis have distinguished themselves. I am a Gujarati and feel happy about that. However, other states in India also have made considerable progress and perhaps their achievement are better than those of Gujarat. Take for example Karnataka. Banglore now is world famous and their Forex earning will far outstrip Gujarat's earning. Gujarat has "Golden Belt" stretching from Baroda to Surat which is full of chemical industries and spews toxics in air and water. Gujaratis have very poor communication skills in English and hence have remained backward in certain aspects. All top bureaucrats in Gujarat ministry and police are non Gujaratis. At the Centre, Gujarat does not have any voice because Gujarat MPs can not express themselves in Parliament. Much smaller states like J&K, Punjab and Himachalpradesh have better say in Centre. Tamilnadu and WB attract many more Central Govt projects. Hardly any company in NIFTY have their registered office in Gujarat. Though Gujarat has IIM, not even 5% of the students getting in IIM are from Gujarat.
As regards India, the country has taken tremendous strides in last two decades but India is still much backward compared to the West.
Nightmare, Thanks for your frank info about other side of Gujarat. I had a very limited knowledge about this state and peacock1's post gave some very good facts. I guess one needs to read both the posts to get a complete picture.
Peacock1, you must have read Nighmare’s post carefully. That explains all. Each desi is proud of his/her state, which is good. But there is no need to say that a particulate state is a gem of India without looking at the drawbacks. Two of my close friends are Gujjus. Not once they have said that their state is a gem of India. Those who have kept tab on our country know what’s going on. One does not have to be a genius to figure it out.
OTOH, what I like with Gujjus is that they are community folks, like Punjabis. When I say community, they know how to live in a group (there may be others too, but I am not familiar). They know how to live in joint families. We south Indians are ….kind of different (no offence to south Indians).
