As regards mortgage, you'd probably have to discuss that with one of their mortgage specialist over the phone.

Oimnadniia, the account you are talking about is probably NRE type of account which you can use to send money to India. It would not be practical to use it in Canada for day to day banking.

Since the whole banking is free, avail it and take advantage of it. You will also get cheque books and the chequing, paying bills etc., also free. You also collect sufficient points (Brownie points) during the year for a holiday treat at the end of the year. Like a free Turkey or two bags of Basmati rice for the year end. It is more like a "VIRTUAL BANK". You might like it.

That is my observation.
