Hi,

I, my wife and our 3 year old daughter are going to India for couple months. This is our first visit after me and my wife became canadian citizens and our daughter's first visit too. Based on some people's experiences, here is what I think is the list of docs to carry.

-Air tickets [that was genius, wasn't it :-)]
-Canadian passports with Indian visa
-Cancelled Indian passports for myself and wife
-Birth certificate for our daughter
-Citizenship certificates for myself and wife
-Landing papers for myself and wife.
-Two photocopies for all above. Put one in carry in baggage and one in check in baggage just in case.

Anything else?

List is probably more exhaustive than it needs to be but I guess its better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks in advance
vagg

Sounds good, although here is what I normally carry and have made safe and uneventful overseas trips with and without spouse and child.

Canadian passport with indian visa and
Citizenship card (it is just there in my wallet always)

If you have an e-ticket, you would not **technically** need to carry one (although it is always good to carry in case you forget the itinerary) since swiping the passport at self / full check-in will reveal all the details of your trip.

Bon voyage.

HI Vagg

Technically, you do not need to carry

-Birth certificate for daughter
-Citizenship certificates
-Landing papers

Your Canadian passports with Indian visas are sufficient. Indian customs may or may not ask you for the cancelled Indian passport, but it is better to carry and avoid being harrassed.

Thanks very much, dimple2001 and freakoutguy, for your replies

freakoutguy, you are right but I guess its always better to carry more docs than less, just in case.

I agree with freakoutguy.

In case if loose your bag, you may loose all your original document. Why take landing paper, long citizenship certificate (small card is ok to carry in your wallet) & birth certificate.

But your choice.

+1

More documents = more things to take care. Don't carry if you don't need.

Thanks for the replies and helpful suggestions. Will keep that in mind. Will keep non required docs like landing papers, birth cert etc. separate from essential ones.

Just want to carry the non-required docs just in case, considering the recent news where a Kenyan woman was told that she appears different than her 4 year old pic on the passport and her passport was confiscated. So I guess you should have some other docs to prove your identity/status in canada, just to be sure.
