Hi Greetings!

This is regarding PCC for sponsering wife's immigration (PR).

I have lots of queries. Residing in New Delhi (India)

1. For how much duration a person has to stay in a particular address to get his PCC done from local police station.

2. If married for 1 an half year and residing in the same address till date. Is this much of duration ok for PCC. (I have all my relevant documents/proofs of present address).

3. My passport is done from different address (in New Delhi itself), do I need to apply PCC again from that local police station also.

4. Wherever I stayed in India do I need to get all the places PCC done.

Kindly advise as I'm confused what to do.

Thanks & Regards

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Generally PCC is checked from the date of birth. But after you become an adult, which is after 18 years of age, you become an independent individual and hence will require a clearance on your own. But accompanying Parents and being a dependent they might waive it. (Mostly, students who travel on their own, have to get it done)

2) When you apply for a Passport a PC is done and then the PP is issued to you. So, they have a previous check up until that date.

If you do not have a passport, then, the check has not been done for you. So, when they do a Police Check they will do the same from all of the locations that you lived and you will have to provide all of the addresses of those locations to facilitate their checks. This is a courtesy.

When we apply to get into a country, say Canada, and have an application in their CHC office and they request you for a PCC, then, you will have to provide them with one from the date of issue of the Passport, plus to the time of the request and submit the same together with their request. Since you have one upto the issue of the PP, your PCC will give all of the details in it. (In some countries it will just say there is no criminal record. Period.)

The validity of the PCC is for only six months from the date of its issue. If there are delays in the processing, then, they will ask you for another one. So, be fast in your completion of the medicals and other submissions and send all of the papers by COURIER. That will leave a little leeway for all of the unforeseen matters.

If you have lived in a different location, after the issue of the PP, say, in some other country, then if these last 1-1/2 years of stay are in this NEW country, then you will have get one up until the issue of the PP from your Indian High Commission and then for the additional period of 1-1/2 years(18 months) for this new country.
If it happens to be in India, then it will be just for the new address, because you have PCC till the issue of the PP.

3) If you have understood up to here, then, you will know that you have to get it done for this new address, since the PP's Issue date.

4) When you provide the Police, all of the details, they will do it for all of the locations. If they do not, then you will have to apply and get it done for those locations also. The onus is on you to get it all done.

You are not confused, you are just taking the easy way out. Please talk with your LOCAL POLICE and they will give you all of the details for each of these questions. Please try it, and you will also know how they proceed with it too.

Hope this helps you a little.

Freddie.
