Lahore: Former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf has blamed India for the formation of terror groups such as the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM).

Talking to a private television channel, Musharraf said it was the oppression of Muslims in India by the Hindus which forced the Pakistani youth to take up militancy and extremism and form terrorist groups such as JeM.

Musharraf also defended his action of supporting the United States in its 'war on terror' post 9/11 attack saying Pakistan's existence could have been endangered if he would have not done so.

"Pakistan's territorial integrity could have been jeopardized had Pakistan not decided to side with the US and allied forces in the post-9/11 scenario," The Daily Times quoted Musharraf, as saying.

Musharraf said during his regime Pakistan made unprecedented progress in all fields including on delicate issues like Kashmir, Siachen and the Sir Creek dispute.

"The country had moved forward on all major issues such as Kashmir, Sir Creek and Siachen through 'back-channel diplomacy during my tenure," Musharraf said.

He also claimed that India has built consulates near the Pakistan border in Afghanistan with an aim to destabilize Pakistan.

What bothers me is the attitude of ELM (English Language Media). Why would DNA publish such an article without any input of their own?

DNA could have published the fact that at the time of partition Hindu population in Palistan and B'desh was 30% which is now down to single digit. How did that happen? Is it that Hindu realized that ROP (Religion of peace) is better than Hindu religion? or is it because of the fact that large number of Hindu were killed and subdued and forced to change their religion? This joker rambles something and ELM happily publish the garbage verbatim. I gurss some one in the West not enlightened about real plight of preferential treatment that followers of ROP gets in India would get a very wrong notion. Musharraf is a very vile character. However, ELM has made him a hero. Now , though he is out of power and favor (His pal and mentor Bush is gone ) , they still keep printing his garbage without any comment. All that ELM in India do is to copy paste. I have always marvelled at so called Indian intellectual class who read ELM and never protest. I wrote to DNA and have asked them to provide their comment but I doubt my letter will be published or DNA would relent and give their input.

The following story makes very interesting reading on Musharraf's mind set and culture. The guy has no respect for international treaties or no humanity but has been praised by ELM in India so much that I sometimes wonder if he would be nominated for Noble prize for peace!. ELM in India is shameless and so are its avid followers.

Islamabad: Ilyas Kashmiri, a militant commander who fought in Jammu and Kashmir in the 1990s and is believed to have been killed in a recent US drone attack, was once rewarded by Pervez Musharraf for "slitting the throat" of an Indian Army officer in 2000, a media report said today.

Kashmiri, a commander of the Harkat-ul-Jehad al-Islami, was reportedly killed in a drone attack in North Waziristan last week.

He also served in the elite Special Service Group, a commando unit of the Pakistan Army, and was deputed by the military to train Afghan mujahideen fighting the Russian Army in Afghanistan in the mid-1980s, The News daily reported.

On February 26, 2000, Kashmiri reportedly conducted a guerrilla operation against the Indian Army in Nakyal sector after crossing the LoC with 25 militants. He surrounded a bunker and threw grenades inside.

"He was able to kidnap an injured Indian officer whose throat he later slit, the report said. Kashmiri came back to Pakistan with the head of the Indian officer and presented it to top army officials, including then army chief Gen Musharraf, who gave him a cash award of Rs 1 lakh," the report said.

Pictures of Kashmiri with the head of the dead Indian officer in his hands were published in some Pakistani newspapers and he became very important among militants, the report said.

Maulana Zahoor Ahmad Alvi of Jamia Muhammadia in Islamabad even issued a fatwa in support of slitting the throats of Indian Army officers.

These incidents occurred at a time when the then Corps Commander in Rawalpindi, Lt Gen Mehmood Ahmad, visited Kashmiri's militant training camp at Kotli and "appreciated his frequent guerrilla actions against the Indian Army", the report said.

A resident of Kotli area of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, he was an expert in mines and lost an eye during the jehad in Afghanistan.

After the withdrawal of the Russian Army from Afghanistan, Kashmiri was asked by the Pakistani establishment to work with Kashmiri militants.

He joined the Kashmir chapter of Harkat-ul-Jehad al-Islami in 1991.After a few years, he developed differences with HuJI chief Qari Saifullah Akhtar and created his own '313 Brigade'.

He was once arrested by the Indian Army in Poonch area and held in various jails for two years before he escaped by breaking out of prison.

During tensions along the Line of Control in 1998, Kashmiri was given the task of attacking Indian forces and carried out assaults "many times", the report said.

Kashmiri's honeymoon with the Pakistan Army generals reportedly ended after the creation of Jaish-e-Mohammed. Gen Ahmad wanted Kashmiri to join the JeM and accept Maulana Masood Azhar as his leader but he refused to do so.
