Dear Sir,
I have a query - and I guess there are many others like me.
I applied for Canadian PR through India. Now I am in Indonesia. I have got a letter from CHC, New Delhi to Submit passport.
Now the problem is - I cannot send the Passport by post (It is illegal).
And, I do not want to go personally - as it might take 1-3 month for visa stamping and I cannot get such a long leave.
My question is - Can I send the Passport through someone else who can then post them to CHC.New Delhi from India.
Your inputs would be appreciated.
Thanks and Regards,
Mahesh
You can do it and one of my friends who was in a similar situation did that.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.
The risk is for your friend - when you are in possession of more than 1 passport, and one of them does not belong to you - you may be charged and arrested. This is one of the reasons why Post and courier services cannot handle your passport - except when mailed by Passport office.
Can you ask CIC / Canadian consulate in Indonesia if they can stamp your PR there?
Good Luck.
Hiren
Thanks both of you for replying.
Couple of points
1. One thing is clear that the Passports have to be submitted to the Visa post where application was made.
So the option of asking Canadian embassy in Indonesia is out.
2. On asking somebody to carry - If I give authority letter - will it be safe for the person carrying the passport.
Ash06 - Do you have any ideas what did your friend did...
Thanks and regards,
mahesh
1. It is correct that you must submit the passport at the CHC office where you submitted your application. So, no choice.
2. Giving an authorization letter explaining the situation and attaching a copy of the CHC letter asking for passports seems to be a good idea. At least you and your friend have some explanation in the (normally unlikely) event that your friend is checked and caught carrying somebody else's passport.
Under normal circumstances it is quite unlikely that the passport would be found. We can't rule out such a possibility though.
Coming to the point, my friend gave the passports and his friend took the passports and handed them over to my friend's parents. That's it. There was no authorization letter or anything of that sort. It was all done in good faith.
Just make sure that your friend is trustworthy and knows how to handle the situation should there be any problem. What I am saying is that give your ppt to sbody who you really trust. Of course there are risks in the process.
All said and done, I am giving this info just to share info and I am not sure of legalities and any other problems associated (disclaimer).
Don't worry. Everything would go smooth.
Cheers.
Really appreciate your help in taking time out and responding
why you want to take risk, one wrong step would jeopardize your case. you cant ride on 2 boats at a time. lately you will have to leave your job and proceed to canada in 3 months, so why not return to india for good.
