Hi

I have been reading this forum for last few days and found it very very informative. Good work.

I am from Pune and planning to apply for Canada immigration and have done good study of cic website. But there are some areas for which I need confirmation.

I am not going to include my wife and child (age 14) in the application. In this case I am assuming that --

1. Processing fee of only CA$ 550 will suffice (and later CA$ 490).
2. Police clearance will be required for me alone and not my wife.
3. If my application is approved, then while sending papers to New Delhi I do NOT have to include my wife's papers like -- (a) education certificates (I am not claiming points for her B.Sc. degree), (b) school leaving cert (c) photocopies of her passport.
4. If I settle down well in Canada I can have join me in Canada later on wihout much trouble.

Please respond if these assumptions are correct.

Thanks in advance

WorkSmart

Son-of-india: Why don't you just stick to the subject. There are certain advantages in coming to Canada alone (initially). But you don't seem to understand.

Moderators: Please take a note of unwarranted comment by Son-of-india.

Thanks

Before I answer your specific questions, I strongly recommend that you STOP and read the entire sponsorship process very carefully.
You are making some very wrong assumptions that will land you in trouble later.
In addition to the general application process and instructions, you MUST also read the visa office specific instructions for the post you are applying from (I assume that'll be New Delhi for you).
The visa office specific instructions are the ultimate rule and override the general instructions on the CIC site.
The New Delhi specific instructions are located here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/skilled-mission.asp
Now, to your questions

Correct - but verify the exact fee on the date you are applying.

2. Police clearance will be required for me alone and not my wife.
Police clearance is required for all family members, accompanying or not.
Same for medicals - ALL family members MUST go thru medicals, accompanying or not.
Essentially, all family members go thru the exact same process as primary applicant, except for the ROPR fee and not getting the visa.

Check visa office specific instructions - passport copy may be required. I'm not sure.

Not at all!
If you choose to not include your family in your PR application now, you CANNOT sponsor them later under Family class.
Refer-
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/EG74.asp
Carefully read the section titled Application for Permanent Residence in Canada (IMM 0008‑Generic).
It clearly states that non accompanying family members cannot be sponsored later.

Hi Pratick

Thanks for your inputs. By the way, I have read all the instruction on CIC plus New Delhi instruction as least 5 times (no exaggeration here).

For point no. 1 wanted only confirmation and thanks for providing the same.

Point no. 2 - thanks for your inputs (about Medicals they have mentioned clearly on CIC website that whole family has to go for it. Thus, I have NOT asked question about medicals in this forum. BUT there is no such clear mention about PCC - if wife's PCC is needed or not, when wife in not included in the application).

Point no. 3 - still looking for answers.

Point no. 4 - I am sorry but your inputs seem to be incorrect. You have got confused between family members being 'LISTED' and 'INCLUDED' in the application. I am pasting the relavant para here.

*****************************************************
Details of family members
Provide personal details about your family members, whether they intend to accompany you to Canada or not (for more information on family members, including age requirements, refer to Family members).

You must also provide details on family members whose location is unknown (including those missing or presumed dead).

Important: You must list all family members, whether they wish to be considered in your application for permanent residence at this time or not. You will not be able to sponsor family members at a later date if they are not listed on your application.
*******************************************************

CIC expects that all the family members MUST BE LISTED, irrespective of whether they are INCLUDED or not. (INCLUDE means they will get visa, LIST means I am only giving details to CIC about who all is there in my family). I hope it is clear to you now.

(NOTE: The purpose of posting this question was to know from others whether it takes a long time like 2 yrs after applying or does it happen in few months. This is what I meant by 'without much trouble'. I never had doubt that I can get them in later).

About point no. 3: Can someone please provide help?

(Pratick: On a side note, any guess about how serious would New Delhi office be about my PCC from Abu Dhabi for my stay there in 1989? Abu Dhabi has practically zero crime rate. Any guess if they will accept an affidavit as a substitute?)

Thanks

Sponsoring your immediate family does not take that long, usually.
6 months to 1 year would be average, I believe.

It's not about the crime rate.
If you have lived in a country for 6 months or more, you have to provide PCC, unless visa office specific instructions tell you it's not needed for specific countries.
A long time ago, there used to be a list of countries from where PCC was not required because CHC performed the checks on their own.
If such a list doesn't exist anymore or Abu Dhabi is not on that list, you should try and get a PCC through their consulate.
Regarding the copy of passport for your wife, there's no harm in including it if you are not able to find a clear requirement in the instructions sheet.
It's only 2 pages photocopy.

Also, I still don't understand why you want to go through all this trouble of not including your family if you want them with you soon anyway.
Is it because of financial reasons i.e. paying the fee and higher proof of funds requirement?
If not, it will be so much easier for you to simply include them in your application and make it simple for everyone.
The more regular and typical your case is, the faster it will get processed.
Things like non accompanying spouse raise red flags.
There are other hassles like including custody documentation, declaration from your non accompanying spouse, etc.

Hi Pratick: Sincere thanks to you for your detailed reply.

The reasons for not wanting to include my family in the application:

1. Cost: The 'cost of immigration' for me alone is $550+$490+INR 20 k misc + airfare (return) INR 60k = Total INR 1.3 lacs

With family: $ 1250+ $980 + INR 25k misc + airfare INR 180k = Total will be INR 3.1 lacs

2. I would rather come to Canada alone, settle down in some job and then get my family to join me. If I choose not to settle down here, then I can always go back after saving INR 1.3 lacs in 6 months by doing odd jobs (I have done my calculations on that front). In that case I can visit Canada for 6 months in Summer every year, thus meeting my residency requirement. (I am not doing any job in India but online trading which I can do from Canada as well).

Overall, it is an experiment which is not worth INR 3 lacs. Hope you get the picture. On the flip side it may take little longer....let it be. The chance of rejection will be higher....let it be. But I am not game for INR 3 lacs.

Practick: Is there any way to contact you via personal mail (gmail, etc). I cannot write everything openly in the forum.

(NOTE: CIC requires only 2 page copy of passport but New Delhi needs copy of each and every page and my wife has two passports).

Thanks
