Hi friends,
Just few days ago, I loaded Windows XP-Professional on my PC. Though I upgraded my system but there were few programs which were running perfect before XP and now there is problem with them. One of them is: Sound. I used to play MP3 files and other songs' files but now it says there is no sound card, make sure there is one in the system.
I had sound card before XP but now no sound card??? Thats weird. I tried to troubleshoot the hardware, went to system device>device manager>legacy sound driver and it says that hardware is working properly but there is no sound. When I try to play some song, it gives me an error (probably 80002456) and says no sound card detected.
COULD ANY ONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THAT?
I had one CD which came with the system (Detonator 3, version 14.10, it says : unleash the power of nvidia. I tried to install the software again but unfortunately, CD is corrupted, I tried to download from internet, got success, it shows up an icon in the program files but still not able to play sound........again the same problem.
PLEASE HELP ME! TELL ME WHAT TO DO?
Thx and Rgds,

do not upgrade do a clean install again and let me know
My Mistake!
Infact I did not upgrade because I had Win 98 before. I did an overwrite and not upgrade.
I just now talked to my vendor, from whom I bought the computer. He walked me thru the system>device manager and asked me if there was any 'yellow' mark in front of any sound device. It was nothing there. He said then there should not be any problem but PROBLEM IS THERE. I don't know whats happening?
No wonder Bill Gates is the richest person. He is a bloody 'Lootera'. First make new softwares and then disable lot of running things in the computer and then make people buy lot of extra stuff!

I'm no hardware guy but-
you are sure the speakers are plugged in right? And the connection is good? Also as a test try to play some .wav files if you can...you can find some in c:\windows\media folder
Also the detonator drivers probably belong to the gfx card...nvidia. I dont think you should worry about the same in this case. Afaik, nvidia does not do anything with sound cards.

Ohhhh Yes, Clean Install works like a Charm. But if you have Upgrade CD. You can try few things like ...
I. If your speaker is connected or not (That's What Jake has suggested)
And with any upgrade, make sure you are installing Proper Drivers for the system.
Sanjeev, your Hardware vendor pointed out some "Yellow Exclamation" marks, but I guess he didnot suggest any solution to it ...
II. Search XP Driver, for Yellow Marked Devices... (At worst Case, your Hardware might not be XP Compatible)
If your System is Old, Older than 4 Years, don't even think of installing XP. XP is resource Hungry. Jitna Doge utna Kam Hai.

My Mistake ...
you don't have any "Yellow Exclamatio Marks"
But still, search for XP driver for your Sound Card

Mumbai Maazi Ladki ...
check first that if the vendor gave u a seperate disc/floppy for sound card, if so check on it for XP folder and install that driver and reboot . if u have windows 2000 driver, that may work also.
if not then, go to sound card's manufacturer website and download the driver for "your sound card" compatible with XP and install.
make sure to do these b4 relocating to India.
