Even the news papers differentiate ... expats and local emirates ... then there is subclass of religious preference....

RELIGIOUS SUBCLASS ? CAN YOU ELABORATE ?

Normal engineer or ca or architect or sales manager (majority of the crowd in any given situation or country) 5 years exp.... could get a job for around AED 15,000 (CAN$ 4285 a month) (this salary in today’s time’s recession is considered very good)... now lets break down the so called TAX FREE income.....

I have stayed 20 years in this country ... believed me there is a lot of indirect tax ...... and in a manner where you cannot save it.......

Let’s count the exp of this normal earner.....
For him to keep wife and one kid....
Minimum requirement Studio flat..... With utility during boom time AED 5100 a month (can$ 1457) in Dubai ...not in neighboring Sarah and Ajman which is cheaper but commuting would take hours ... and hours.....and to find this place pay key money and the land lord will slap a 15 to 20% increase next year ... as the market is booming ......

15 to 20% WHAT KIND OF RULE IS THAT ? TERRIBLE

there is no retirement plans ... no unemployment insurance ...... no social security ..... you are an expat ... work till you can and then go back ..........no acceptance at all......

TERRIBLE

My husband & I have spent 10 years in Dubai....its not such a bad place as you make it to be... Yes the downside is that if you lose your job you are out but all the same its a great place if you wish to save money.
Its a conscious decision one makes when you move to UAE with your eyes open
As for debts...which country does not have people who are debt ridden??? Dubai is an extremely safe place for women & families living alone. Its a great place if one wants to save & very close to India
However having said all this we have still made a desicion to move to Canada in 2011...Why??
Because of our kids, we want our kids to have a good education & experience the Canadian culture. We want to open the doors of the world for them. India is a place where they would not be able to settle as they have spent all their young lives in Dubai
However I am confused ......still, afraid? Yes definitely so , at 36 to start afresh is a daunting task, especially since my husband would be still living in Dubai (till he gets a job or transfer) & me & the kids moving to Canada.

The positive side of living 15 -20 years in UAE

Made me storng in terms of Bank balence...

Made me strong with handling day to day discrimnation( religious).....

Made me strong to think how to find loop holes in the system......

Made me strong to blame others in the (so called Urban) culture......

The negitive side is...............

Most of us become very selfish...

Most of the kids dont know how to play and share with fellow kids.....

Most of the time we cultivated how to please the boss rather than work.....

Most of the time eat out side and depend on Maid servent......

By the time we reach 50 we try to go back to India and thinking ill about our past and if possible return to "Gelf" to do any kind of job.....

For your info the salry range that expat indian comunity as per indian embassy salary survey says................2008 (before financial market went down)...

think about now...

5% of indian expats at 20000 -30000 dhs/month salary (banking & real est)

5% of indian expats at 15000 - 20000 Dhs/month salary (Engg & Acount)

10% of indian expats at 7000 -15000 Dhs/month salary (engg & office)

20% of indian ecpats at 1500 - 7000 dhs/month salary (regular office)

60% of indian expats at 300 - 1500 dhs/month salary....( labour)

Still culture wide education wide i belive Indian sylbus and style is much suits our mind sets....

finally our own family background and thinking makes us migrate....(bit fancy)

I hope collecting citizenships is not a hobby for you. If you have been singing for 3 years: I still haven't found what I was lookin for.... I hope you won't continue with the same song once you return.. Good luck in India.

Actually I meant that it seems to be a terrible system especially with no social security, unemployment insurance and so on.

Could you elaborate on

1. religious subclass
2. Rents increasing by 15% every year ?
3. 15 years of Dubai experience makes one special ?

It does seem to be a huge price to pay to live there I think.
