Thanks Cdn_Dude .
I was asking from the point of a view of a Canadian citizen .. Sorry for digressing a little .
If a Canadian citizen applies for an H1 , would the INS raise objection / reject / discourage this Visa on the basis that since he / she can come on a TN , why should he/she apply for an H1 ? ... I know there may be no rules in the book regarding this but just to know if you / anyone knows about any unwritten rules regarding this ...

I read in a newspaper that there are around 15,000 H1's atill available. Check it out and make use of it. If things dont work out well, u have the fall back to Canada PR.
KM
Thank you all.
Could you please provide me with some pointers for finding consulting firms.
Should I be prepared to pay for the H1B processing fees etc ?
Thanks
Timbo
As you are still on PR status I would advise that you first fulfill your Canadian residency requirement (2 out of 5 years) and get your Canadian citizenship before looking for jobs in the US.
Here's the reality check on US
1) The job market in the US is at rock bottom right now
2) You can't find anyone willing to sponsor your H1 due to the same reason (FYI there are no takers for around 20,000 H1's for FY 2009)
3) TN visa is for Canadian citizens and NOT for Canadian PR's.
As you’re still on PR status, it will be difficult for you to meet the residency requirement even if you get a job in US.
Hence get your Canadian citizenship first, improve your qualifications (like getting a degree) and then look for jobs in US on TN. Hopefully the US job market would be better by then.
Thanks Goldfinger for your suggestion.
I was thinking if I could get any job aroud Detroit /Buffalo area so that I can commute from Canada.I have 2 years to qualify for citizenship.
