If India can turn into a fast-growth economy, it will be the first developing nation that used its brain power, not natural resources or the raw muscle of factory labor, as the catalyst.
The gains in efficiency could be tremendous. Indeed, India is accelerating a sweeping re engineering of Corporate America. Companies are shifting bill payment, human resources, and other functions to new, paperless centers in India.
Now, many talented Indians feel a sense of optimism India hasn't experienced in decades. "IT is driving India's boom, and we in the younger generation can really deliver the country from poverty,"
It said the growth in IT and BPO will result in India's exports rising to $168 billion and gross domestic product (GDP) growth accelerating to 7.4 per cent by 2010.
India's software exports have risen to a new high and could exceed targets set for the next few years.

BRAIN DRAIN :h

How many students do return home and what are their excuses for not returning?

There are more Indian medical doctors in Chicago than in a city like Mumbai. At the rate medical doctors are leaving India, we could eventually have more Indian doctors working outside India than within it. We need them back with all their expertise they learnt being away
We also need engineers to help provide constant electricity, clean water and safe roads. We need them to get back all the modern technology they learnt being away.
We also need scientists. We use science and technology to discover and recover petroleum. We use medical science to reduce infant mortality rate.

The world has changed a lot in the last fifty years. In today's world knowledge creates wealth. Therefore, we need people with brains, not muscles. Unfortunately, it is the best and brightest that can obtain visas to North America. What is left behind is the least educated.

How can we reverse brain-drain? First, we build a data bank of Indians abroad. Then, we offer them meaningful employment and compensation that will entice them to return home.

We should stop spending millions dollars in building weapons.
One million dollars is greater than the daily salary of one million school teachers.
We must change our priorities be reducing our defense budget and increasing our education budget.
We must increase our investment in science, technology and education.
As we approach in to the coming years, it is appropriate that we reflect on our legacy for our children. In the next century, it will be technological knowledge that will create wealth. Therefore, our legacy to our children will be the investments that we made on their education.

UGOT
"reverse brain-drain" have already been started towards India. It is just a matter of few years when our kids would ask us " why did you bring us to this country" ?????

I am here for 6.5 years now and within last year the way I have seen reverse immigration or brain drain is phenomenal.

People are realizing that this country do not need professionals ( they need only laborers) and they feel that changing face of Indian economy have given them a better opportunity to use and prove their capabilities. This country is and would be a big time looser !

Thanks and regards.

Agree with you Biomed, but as i see there are equal amount of people that will disagree on this forum. Some were just lucky enough to get a good break when they first came. Perhaps if they too were in line with the other immigrants like starting in a warehouse or factory then it would be another story. India problem is population. Corruption will lower as soon as the new generation takes over. It is just beginning. So far most of our politicians were freedom fighters who were thinking the old way. It has started to change. I guess once you are displaced from your motherland you keep moving till you finally settle some place when you are tired of looking for the other end of the rainbow

my little buddy ugot_mail:

u seem to lack a lot of knowledge of india. india has the 2nd largest pool of "brains" but it could not provide every one a "satisfying" job. so if half of those people come out to developed countries there is nothing wrong with it. those who are here, frquently interact with their countrymen. which is technology exchange as long is it is not sensitive/dual purpose. there is no restriction for medical exchange. the credit goes to the indian engineers/doctors/scientists in developed world working together with their countrymen to give india the present day "fame".

spending billions (not millions) on defence is justified, because u lack the knowledge of indian history. india is surrounded by savages who have been trying to convert that country to "savagism" for last eight hundred years and its present day borders have shrunk to nearly half.

*****under a foreign rule u r the tennant in ur own home with no rights*****
