Our babysitter is asking us to pay for days when our kid does not go to her.
School is now off and so my son is spending his vacation with my in law.
we pay her weekly by cash @ rate$25 per day for 2 hours plus pick and drop to school.
I don't mind paying if this is how it should be but just wanted to confirm that i am not being ripped off.
Any thoughts?

This seems O.K. Since she is picking and dropping too. That is a deal for ONE Kid. No one does that, which is picking and dropping, especially if it is a KID, you need a car seat, securing the baby etc., ETC., and driving with a invaluable individual..

Here she is taking advantage of the fact that she is the only one who is doing this kind of service. You should make it clear before and since it was not done so, it is your good heart that will dictate if her services are worth it and pay what she is asking now. It also depends upon the relationship that you have with her. If you think it is unreasonable, then DUMP her. See if she will come back to you crying. Don't forget you are paying big bucks and can command such a service for the money.

There is always a next time.....

Freddie.

It is a normal practice for baby sitters to charge for the days that child is on vacation. All daycares and liscenced baby sitters have this as a normal practice. The justification being that they are essentially reserving a spot for your child which would otherwise go to someone else.
Since you are using a private baby sitter you can negotiate for it . I think right now she is going by what is the prevalent practice. Or as Freddie suggested is she is not that good go to someone else

Thanks for taking time to respond!
Comparing with Licensed daycares and baby sitters is exactly what we did too. But the catch here is that we can file for tax rebates(not 100% sure) in that case but since i am paying my babysitter weekly in cash, there is no way i can show this while filing for tax.
She is good and i have had no other issues except when she called to tell me this thng about payment last week. We have given her our son's spare car seat which i am sure she might be using for other kids and i don't mind that at all.
I actually don't want to change but at the same time she has now left me confused and honestly annoyed too!

Take it easy. She is not charging you extra. But all of these are clear if you go to a day care center. When they close the system for holidays they will tell you that you don't have to pay since THEY are on HOLIDAYS. But with a personal baby sitter who does all of what you say, spread it over a time and see if it adds up to a buck or two more per use. If it does then, your paying her now is, just a bonus to her.

But see if she comes to do the sitting when you call her, she still owes you the service for which she is demanding the big bucks. If she says that she is busy and on holidays or cannot come and do it, then don't pay. It is "PAY AS YOU GO SYSTEM". You are the user and you are the one who is paying. You have the whip in your hand. So, command.

Freddie.
