Dear fellow members.
Please Help with ur experience.
I just applied for my wife's immigration . she is in Punjab . My marriage was love marriage. that i found my wife on matrimonial website. we kept on talking for 1.5 years.(sended phone records to CIC) and after that i went on vacation for 15 days and married her(that was not pre-planned). The marriage was a court marriage only and we gave a little party in the community to give the marriage social recognition. I do have marriage certificate and some pictures of the party(exchanging rings and cutting marriage cake togeather). But there was no rituals in my marriage due to non presence of my family. Rest everything is fine ... with all my documents and everything.

Would that be a problem as my marriage was not with rituals and my family was not present there. Please advice and help. . . !!! And how much time it would take to process the file in New Delhi. Missisauga recieved my file on 25th of Jan 2010.
Please Advice...!!

Thanks a million. . . . !!

Best regards.

In most cases the timeline is 3 to 9 months. most people get spousals in 3 months. .My wife got it in 5 months because of some questions about my own residency which the cic wanted to clarify.

For a Punjabi bride the time could be more because of a large number of scams that have been unearthed from that part of the country.. I have known cases where the person a punjabi got divorced(First was a fake to get into canada) and married again and the paper work is not moving at all. If there any doubts then u will get caught in a similar timeline which could take upto 2 years..

Ur case does not look out of ordinary for a general indian marriage..I think u should be ok.. make sure u document everything and send a copy to ur wife.. u could be subjected to simultaneous interviews..

I write this, based on what I have heard from close quarters - Given your circumstances, the best person to advise you, would be an immigration attorney. Even so, you need to make sure that you hire someone competent, resourceful, and has YOUR interest in mind, apart from the fee that you pay him or her.

Canadian Immigration looks at every sponsorship application with a fine tooth comb. It may be an overstatement - but they assume that there could be an element of fraud in each application. It is upon the applicant to prove that the application is genuine. Towards that end, you would need to submit as much evidence as possible, like phone bills, pictures of your engagement, the actual wedding showing guests, the marriage certificate, If you went on a honeymoon, it is a good idea to submit photocopies of your hotel bill, and pictures taken during the honeymoon.

If your spouse is invited to an interview, she must be armed with every possible information about you like when you first met, how you met, and evidence thereof,
information about your employment (employer, salary etc), information as to how long you have been in Canada etc. There may be questions that sound silly like what your favorite color is, which side of the bed you sleep on etc, but these have been asked.

For professional advice, there is nothing like talking to an immigration attorney.

There is an immigration consultant I know - she is a member of the CSIC, and is authorized to represent clients with the Government of Canada.

I have used her services for a visit visa, in the past. I found her to be very professional in her approach.

You can speak to her, and hire her, if you feel comfortable. She operates out of Mississauga.

She is not related to me in anyway.

Please send me a PM for her contact information.
