Any suggestions to reboot the pc ? it does not start the normal

Before any suggestions some questions
what is the OS in the system
How long do you face the problem
Do you see any error ? if yes what is the error message
Do you have the OS disk with you
Have you tried to use system restore ( Going back in time stuff...)
While booting hit (Tap) On F8 function key continuiously , if you see a list where it says boot the system in normal select and see what happens

My OS is XP home, and my boot screen will halst at the screen where you get the options of selecting safe mode ans stuff like that,
irrespective of what you select it starts rebooting itself, and again stoping at the same screen/
I do not hold any original OS disc, as the original sys was brought preloaded with XP. I fear the naster boot record is corrupt.
Restore sys to " last known good configuration did not work.
